do you know how long will it take for a brand new ship to build? "brand new" meaning himuon pa ni.. asa ka mangitag brand new nga barko nga hinimo daan?? it would take years to build a new ship.. let say if DND will be able to sign a contract to whoever wins the bidding, we can somehow get this ship 4-5 yrs from now.

with how aggressive China has become these past few months.. we need a deterrent asap.. a Maestrale can do that even though its just "second-hand".. get my point? if only the agreement has been sign this month, we can get these ships later this year or early next year..
TIME my friend is not on our side.. don't get me wrong I definitely not against our PN getting brand new ship..

china just snob the petition we created to UNCLOS still if they forfeit the arbitration then the favor goes to us.. i don't like part of your last statement though.. are you saying we will just entrust the security of our country for now to "another country" just because we are not ready yet??

I am more concerned on our credibility now.. we been shouting it to the world since last year.. press release left and right.. and now we're saying we changed our mind.. ganun lang yun. Italy even prepared a package for us to get other hardware as well together with the ships.. true brand new is much better but we need these assets now..

now we know why the DND is rushing to arm our two whecs to the teeth.. BRP GDP and Ramon Alcaraz will be our frigate for now.. until we will have this brand new ships 5 years from now.. (sigh) oh well at least we still have good news in the form of FA-50PH..

If pwede ko mu singit gamay, nasabtan nako imo concern brad. I'm not an expert on this field but i've been following some of our AFP "modernization" since the time i learned how to read and understand "MRF". It took us almost 20 years just to "finally" decide which MRF to buy as replacement of our F5 jet fighters. Hangtud nga muabot nalang ta sa point that we say "to see is to believe." Naka remember ko the first time our govt was planning to buy MRF was in the time of Ramos. Whereas chinese incursions had already started way back then, remember the mischief reef incident..

Nakaingon lage ko it's not enough with regards sa pace of our modernization today, if we based on the current actual threats we are experiencing.. It may take another 10 years (i hope i'm wrong) before we can finally assemble the least credible deterrent against foreign entities..

lol. do i have to know how long for it take make a new one? point is. DND and PN decided on buying a new one. its their decision. and im sure they know more of what their trying to do than what you are saying. if ever naay sense of urgency then they'd be the one to know. they would rather buy the new one then thats it.

klayton thanks.. yes there was an attempt to buy MRF way back 1995 during Pres. Ramos time.. however due to the Asian Financial crisis of 1997.. the plan remains a plan.. until now, just a minor correction though.. our coming FA-50PH is not an MRF.. its a light attack fighter or junior F-16 as others call it.. it has limitation and doesn't stand a chance against what the chinese has..

its just a training platform for our pilots to bridge the gap between 2nd gen to 4th gen fighters.. thats why its tag as SAA/LIFT.. once we have enough pool of pilots.. then true blue MRF will come.. CUP 3 stage for modernization starts in 2016 or 2017..

nice one to read: Multi-Role Fighter (MRF) resource center

its not about entrusting our external security matters to other country but its is very important for us to have an allies which we can lean on.
specially for a country like ours

So if all goes according to plan, when the F-35 begins to replace the F-16 in the U.S., we have arguably one of the best LIFT for that system,
