an attempt to discredit one's competitor, opponent, etc., by malicious or scandalous attacks.

why is it called "mudslinging" when one questions the validity of the COC when some entries contained therein are misrepresented? is it for lack of a better word? the filing of COC's is the most basic and integral part of the whole election process. it's either you have it or you don't and if you filed for one, was the filing in accordance to the rules? and that's not mudslinging. that's called common sense.

is it mudslinging then if one wants to know the veracity of a certain document? "following instructions and submission of pertinent documents", that's what it's all about. it's been taught in school, at work or any place where we need to take exams or fill up a form.

it's basic. if one doesn't comply then he's out. simple.

it's not mudslinging.

Another strike v. Jonkie Ouano

AFTER his citizenship was questioned, Mandaue City mayoral candidate Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano’s residency is now also under scrutiny.

His oath of renunciation of his US citizenship was subscribed last April 28, 2006 but his certificate of candidacy indicates that Ouano has lived in Barangay Opao for six years.

For lawyer Francisco Amit Jr., there is “material misrepresentation” because Ouano has not been residing in Opao within that period, which can be a ground for Ouano’s disqualification.

Amit said that Ouano filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) less than a year after the oath of renunciation was signed.

Another “misrepresentation” in the COC was the entry stating that Ouano is a natural-born Filipino.

Amit said Ouano became an American citizen and that he only reacquired his Filipino citizenship.

Ouano, however, believes the period of residency should be a year before the election, which is May 14 this year.


Mudslinging

“This is mudslinging already,” Ouano said.

He noted that Zoilo signed the petition against him, saying Zoilo is regarded as a leader the same way his grandfather, former mayor Alfredo “Pedong” Ouano, is regarded in his camp.

But a source from the Cortes camp told Sun.Star Cebu that Zoilo signed the petition after maintaining his silence for a long time.
The petition also asked the Comelec to instruct the board of election inspectors and board of canvassers not to count any votes cast for Ouano.

In case the petition is not decided on before the day of the election, Zoilo asked election officials of Mandaue City to exclude the votes for Ouano from the counting.

Boholst said yesterday that even if Ouano presented his oath of renunciation, it is still not enough to qualify him to be a mayoral candidate.

He also said the petition for disqualification is still valid because when such is filed on the grounds of citizenship, it doesn’t have a timetable.

im so happy this is happening to the ouanos... ug ako patubagon nganu mu resort pa cla cortes aning to disqualify him maskin leading si jonas....if there is an easy way to make sure ma pildi, then by all means, we'll do it!! basta ma pildi lang or ma pulihan lang jud nang mga ouano
