Default Please help me compute... I think another household is connected to our electricity supply.

    Hi Istoryans,

I badly need help, I'm confused and I think I am paying for other people's electric consumption.

Here is a list of our appliances and the estimated number of hours we use them:

    LED TV - 12 hours (40 watts)
    6 cubic feet refrigerator - 24 hours
computer, router, modem - 12 hours
    3 electric fan - 12 hours each
    cfl 20 watts - 18 hours
    cable box - 12 hours

Two months ago I tried turning off our main power switch and the house beside us lost their supply as well... voila! I'm paying for the caretaker's power consumption and they kept us blinded. I was about to hire an electrician and have the line checked so I could file a case against them, but my father told me to tell it to the landlady first in case she did not know about it.

And so I called the landlady and a few hours after, her electrician came and cut the other line but then I'm still paying Php1,800.00 up until now (and that was two months ago). My instinct is telling me someone is still connected to our power supply but when I try turning off the main switch, the other house does not lose their supply. I might be wrong but I couldn't fathom the fact that I'm paying this much even when we don't have an air conditioner anymore.

Please help, if you could just clear off my mind from all these foggy thoughts.

    Thanks ya'll!

natubag na ka inday ni slabdans, apan kun gusto mo gayud masayod ug matugkad ug
maayo kun nganong ingon ana kadako imo bayronon, mas maayo magkuha ikaw
ug batid sa maong linya aron usab makorehian kun ugaling may sayop man.

(get an electrician, dali ra na, makabayad tood ka ug gamay pero at least natubag imong
pangutana ug nahibaw-an jud nimo ang tanan,)

If you are still paying almost amount after you disconnected the illegal connection, two things:
    1. the meter reader is assuming your consumption, nagtinapolan ug basa sa imong kwentador.
    2. the meter could be defective.

how to compute(estimate) your electricity consumption:

gikan sa MERALCO: Meralco Appliance Calculator
Basis for computing the estimated electricity consumption of home appliances for the Meralco Appliance Calculator (Meralco AppCal)

Sample Assumed Meralco Residential Electricity Rate per Bill Amount Bracket

Bill Amount (Php) Price per KWh (Php)
    P0 to P108 P0.33
    P109 to P338 P5.18
    P339 to P573 P6.64
    P574 to P1,021 P8.08
    P1,022 to P2,109 P10.12
    P2,110 to P3,271 P10.50
    P3,272 to P4,625 P10.87
    P4,626 to P7,684 P11.54
    P7,685 and up P11.80
Important Note About the Assumed Rate per Kilowatt-hour: The price per kWh shown above is based on June 2010 Meralco electricity rates. The assumed price of electricity per kilowatt-hour is derived statistically and uses representative rate per bill amount bracket group. These assumed data are updated on a regular basis as deemed necessary by Meralco AppCal application administrators. This computation may vary from the actual consumption and rates reflected in the customer’s Meralco monthly electric bill and therefore, this computation should not be used in any way for billing purposes, complaints or concerns against Meralco. This computation should not be used by the customer to estimate electric consumption of appliances and/or equipment used for non-residential or business or commercial purposes.

    FOR REFRIGERATORS & FREEZERS
    Formula:
    Estimated cost per hour = [Rate per kilowatt-hour x (appliance wattage/ 1000) x 14 hours ]/ 24 hours per day

    Example:
For a 6 cubic feet refrigerator for a household with an average monthly bill of P2,500.00.

    Cost per hour = [Rate per kilowatt-hour x (appliance wattage/ 1000) x 14 hours] / 24 hours per day
    Cost per hour = [P10.50 x (100 watts /1000) x 14 hours]/ 24 hours per day
    Cost per hour = [P10.50 x (.10 kilowatt) x 14 hours]/ 24 hours per day
Cost per hour = [P14.70]/ 24 hours per day
    Cost per hour = P00.61
Cost per month = P00.61x number of hours used in one month
    FOR CONVENTIONAL AIR CONDITIONING UNITS
    Formula
    Cost per hour = Rate x [(appliance wattage x 0.8 x 0. + (appliance wattage x 0.2)] / 1000)

    Example:
For a 1 horsepower (944 watts) air conditioner for a household with an average monthly bill of P2,500.00.

    Cost per hour = Rate x [(appliance wattage x 0.8 x 0.8 ) + (appliance wattage x 0.2)] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x [(944 watts x 0.8 x 0.8 ) + (944 watts x 0.2)] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x [(604.16) + (188.8 )] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x [792.96] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x 0.79 kilowatt
    Cost per hour = P8.30
Cost per month = P8.30 x number of hours used in one month
    FOR INVERTER AIR CONDITIONING UNITS
    Formula
    Cost per hour = Rate x [(appliance wattage x 0.965 x 0.48 ) + (appliance wattage x 0.035 x 1)] / 1000)

    Example:
For a 1 horsepower (769 watts) air conditioner for a household with an average monthly bill of P2,500.00.

    Cost per hour = Rate x [(appliance wattage x 0.965 x 0.48 ) + (appliance wattage x 0.035 x 1)] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x [(769 watts x 0.965 x 0.48 ) + (769 watts x 0.035 x 1)] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x [(356.20) + (26.92)] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x [383.12] / 1000
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x 0.38 kilowatt
    Cost per hour = P3.99
Cost per month = P3.99 x number of hours used in one month
    FOR ALL OTHER APPLIANCES
    Formula:
Cost per hour = Rate x (appliance wattage / 1000)

    Example:
For a 29-inch color TV set for a household with an average monthly bill of P2,500.00.

Cost per hour = Rate x (appliance wattage / 1000)
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x (145 watts / 1000)
    Cost per hour = P10.50 x (.145 kilowatt)
    Cost per hour = P1.52
Cost per month = P1.52 x number of hours used in one month
    Sample MAC Computations

IMPORTANT NOTE: THE MERALCO APPCAL COMPUTATION SHOWN ABOVE IS BASED ON JUNE 2010 MERALCO RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICITY RATES. THIS COMPUTATION IS AN ESTIMATE BASED ON ASSUMED DATA. THE COMPUTATION RESULTS OF THE MERALCO APPCAL MAY SLIGHTLY VARY FROM THE ACTUAL CONSUMPTION REFLECTED IN THE MERALCO CUSTOMER’S MONTHLY ELECTRIC BILL AND THEREFORE, THE MERALCO APPCAL COMPUTATION RESULTS SHOULD NOT BE USED IN ANY WAY FOR BILLING PURPOSES, COMPLAINTS OR CONCERNS AGAINST MERALCO, ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, SUPPLIERS AND OTHER PARTNERS. THE MERALCO APPCAL SHOULD NOT BE USED BY ANY PERSON TO ESTIMATE ELECTRIC CONSUMPTION OF APPLIANCES AND/OR EQUIPMENT USED FOR NON-RESIDENTIAL OR BUSINESS OR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES.
