A magnitude-5.5 quake jolted the Eastern Samar area in Eastern Visayas Saturday night, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 9:48 p.m. and was tectonic in origin.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter was traced to 27 km southeast of Borongan in Eastern Samar.
Phivolcs said the quake was felt at:
- Intensity V: Borongan, Llorente, Hernani, Balangkayan and Mercedes, Eastern Samar
- Intensity IV: Tacloban City; Palo, Leyte; Basey, Samar; Taft, Eastern Samar
- Intensity III: Abuyog, Tanauan, Tolosa, Leyte; Catbalogan, Samar; San Policarpo, Eastern Samar
- Intensity II: St. Bernard, Southern Leyte; Catarman, Northern Samar
- Intensity I: Surigao City; Iloilo City
Phivolcs said that while no damage was expected, aftershocks are possible.
