Default HELP! how do i recover files inside a folder?

    good day fellow istoryans!

a few weeks ago, i moved my documents folder to a different drive (drive D) so that it won't be a hassle in moving my files when i reformat my pc. i also checked the option "make this folder private" so that i'm the only user who can view the files.

then problems within my computer system came, so i had to reformat my computer

    here comes my problem:
when i open the folder i moved in drive D (my documents), it says "access is denied"!!
i can't open the my documents folder which i saved, most probably because of the option that i checked...

do you guys have any ideas/suggestions/options/advice on how i could recover my files?
please help me... thanks a lot..

progmetal, the reason why you are denied access is because you made the folder private in the previous windows installation, this means the owner of the folder(username) is the only one that has access(admin too of course).

so what you need to do is to assume ownership of the folder first, before you can access it. since admin naman ghapon ka sa new windows installation. you can do that.

Are you running winxp on a workgroup? if you are you need to enable XP file permission editing, its hidden if your not part of a domain. To enable just go to control panel/folder option/view and at the buttom of the list deselect "Use simple file sharing".

Then go to the said folder, right click select properties/Security tab/advance/owner. change owner to and select your username. Click ok till it closes all the open dialog boxes. Again right click the said folder and back to security tab, then add your account or any account you want to have access and give it full control. click advance and on the permissions tab enable replace permission.......

    Good luck.
