I hope this does not turn out to be a gun issue because at it's heart, it is not. The problem is not with guns. The problem is identifying and helping people who are mentally ill. Where I live, everyone has a gun. I have several guns including two scoped rifles, a handgun, shotgun and enough ammo to start a little war ... yet none of these shootings have happened in my state. To suggest that this is a problem because of the US culture is totally missing the point. Sure more stringent gun laws should be passed, but doing so to satisfy the outrage of those who do not understand the root of the problem is not going to help. People forget that criminals will always get their hands on guns with more laws or less laws. People forget that the guns used in most crimes are not their own so more laws to punish the responsible is not helping curb crime or incidents like this.

Also, I do not mean to sound cold, but as tragic as this is, it is nothing compared to the horrible things that happen every day in the world. It happened in the US and the media likes to report on things that give a rise out of people so they can sell more ads ... of course they would make a bigger deal. But how much media has been given to Darfur? Sudan? China's own killings? Pretty much non-existent.

In a world where First Person Shooter Games are pretty much accessible anytime, there will always be a kid who wants to take the action in real life.

So people didn't start killing for no reason before video games? Don't even begin to bring video games into this. It shows real lack of understanding the situation. He also probably ate burgers, drove cars, watched wrestling, watched cartoons ... so by your logic, there should be some blame on burgers, cars, wrestling and cartoons.

Banning guns only disarms responsible citizens/gun owners. It won't stop the sale of illegal guns.

Most criminals surveyed in prison affirm that they would most likely think twice before breaking and entering if they suspect the owner has a gun. Imagine criminals knowing for a fact that you can't legally own a gun because of a complete gun ban. What would make them think twice? Your karate skills?

My 3-step solution to US school shootings:
    1. Secure school perimeter (short term, immediate corrective action) (Mas ngilngig pa ang pinas kay naa gyud ani)
    2. Gun control / responsible ownership / shorten gun license validity (long term)
    3. Universal mental health care (long term)
