Christmas treat: ‘Stardust’ ballet adaptation



CEBU Centre for Dance (CCD) will stage an adaptation of Stardust, Neil Gaiman’s well-loved book of the same title.

An early Christmas treat from CCD and SM City Cebu, date of performances will be on Dec. 15 (special seats by invitation only) at the SM Northwing Atrium at 3 p.m. and on Dec. 16 at the SM Event Centre at 4 p.m.

Lead characters in the magical story ballet will be played by Sabrina Bogard as the “Star”; Chris Manlunas as the “Lad”; Menreeve Canales as the evil “Witch Queen”; Valerie Ypil as the Lead Pixie; and Isabel Gapas as the Snowdrop.

The story begins in Wall, a village at the crossroads bordering Faerie, where the mortal and magical mingle once every nine years in an enchanted meadow to exchange goods. Lad, a mortal-man from Wall, who wishes to gain his heart’s desire, goes to the Fairy Market to trade for miracles and wonders. The Fairy Market is a pothole of marvels. Above the hubbub of the market, the mortal-man hears a gentle chiming in the air and he walks toward the sound. It leads him to a stall covered with crystal flowers, frozen charms, things of power. The stall is being run by the Witch Queen and a bird, her personal slave. Find out how the story unravels through dance by watching the show.
