The stuffs you learned in college are always designed as basics (because if they include all the advanced topics, a semester wouldn't be enough and only few can cope up), it's up to you to advance and improve. Never blame the college or the instructors of your shortcomings because if you do, you already failed at life. Always code when you get home, or during your free time. Practice coding everyday and practice more. Dwindle your social life. Treat your college projects seriously, because client work is college project multiplied by 50.
