I would rather check on sci-fi's influence to the world as a measure for its success.....

Star Wars moved the movie world with new special effects techniques and made the computers more popular as ever (at a time computers were not so consumer reacheable)... it was influential in movie making and we got George Lucas to thank that for.......

Star Trek too was influential to technology..... concepts like the cellphones, teleconferences and portable meters were based from this cult show & movies....

Alien was influential in creating horror in outerspace... what started as a B-movie with less exposure of the movie monster created a genre.....made a star out of Sigourney Weaver and the xenomorph....

Matrix is very techno oriented.... this seems to be the most popular if not the best storyline for sci-fi. :mrgreen:

Sci-fi is getting too predictable nowadays given movie "clones" (copycats of popular movies), modern media like video games and recent technologies making certain concepts obsolete and at times corny. Newer concepts are slowly introduced but are uncommon.... (if you a fan of the TV series Heroes, there is a real physicist who is working on the theory behind time-travel and teleporting; but we are still from any evolutionary upgrade for now)

Nowadays more comic-to-movie or video-game-to-movie shows are coming out...... some sci-fi books-to-movie shows turned out to be flops like AI and I, Robot.

By the way, Mars Attacks stinks..... what a waste of film and talents.....

Well I'm looking for movies particularly Sci-Fi Outer space movies.

Those that you both mentioned above, I already have DVDs of those movies. So if you have any other titles that is worth watching please post it here . Starwars etc... the best outer space movie so far.

I agree, just wait for Sunshine from the trailers it seems like a good movie to watch.....
