I'm sick and tired of hearing this in the news as if its the biggest scandal to rock this country. Personally I hate the idea that we're starting to sound like ungrateful douchbags from the hospitable people we were known not so long ago. But I'm still curious whats people's opinion on this (none)issue?
Except for, of course the media, and leftist groups like Akbayan reacting AS IF the rest of the country is environmentally spotless, everyone else does not seem to mind this affair and that is because we expect this typical behavior from anti-VFA proponents to nitpick every action done by American military personnel (including contractors) even as mundane as waste disposal.
So basically these people are irate because an US Navy contractor ship dumped waste into Philippine waters they'll likely to be using time and time again and it automatically HAS TO BE toxic or environmentaly hazardous and devastating by showing probably less than ten dead fish in the news today - And that's the best evidence they have!
And when Glenn Defense Marine Asia CEO vice admiral Mateo Mayuga in a press conference blew their hypocrisy back at their faces by telling them that the water waste that was dumped from the ship underwent several environmental protocol and the end result is a much cleaner water than that coming from the average Philippine water source, Akbayan representative (I forgot his name) called the statement "Racist".
Racist?? Couldn't he pull a much more appropriate excuse? So based on the mentally of the Akbayan representative, being unsanitary is a Filipino characteristic and anyone who says something against it is racist. This is beside the point, but it shows how desperate these people are. Ignoring the facts and jumping from one none issue to another.
Anyway this is Admiral Mayuga explaining the Subic waste dumping. It doesn't show the Akbayan representative calling it racist but it was in the 6 o'clock news.
