You can not expect to eradicate or even lessen poverty if you keep supporting government programs that make people more dependent on mediocre government help. They'll remain poor and then they'll have children who will become just like them who will feel entitled for more government help. The government is not a money-making machine. The result is large poor community who will live off of all these types of welfare and labor programs and by large a country with a very high tax rate to support this dependent community. Its a harsh reality really.

Kani ba kay good news sa mga workers kay ni increase ila sweldo.
At the same time bad news sa mga business owners kay mi increase ila ipa sweldo.

At the end of the day, ang alkansi kay kay ang mga consumers (ordinary people inc. the workers),
kay ang mga business owners mag increase ug price sa ila products to compensate the high over head pay of their workers.

si monroy nag sige ingon na bati ni ang minimum wage, comparing phils from thailand. lahi man ang form of government sa thai ug phils, mao lisud compare. and walay gamit mag compare kay pilipinas mani dili mani thailand. King sila, kita president, dili na lang explain daghan, but that's the whole point.

unsa man diay angay buhaton ? mao rani akong balik2x na question. unsa man diay angay para maka balance ang businessmen's side ug worker's side ?

ug tagaan nato ug autonomy ang mga businessman sa ilang salary scheme, magka gubot, disregard lang nato ang CC ug mga professionals, but kadtong nag work sa SM or departments store, those that belong the the "minimum wage" type of work. makita man tingali na ninyo sa magallanes ang mga sales lady sa mga tindahan kay perting gagmaya ug sweldo. mas ganahan ko aning minimum wage kay at least naay uniformity.
Philippines and Thailand are democracies. They have a King but only as a figurehead ina constitutiinal monarchy. Anyway I'm sure most posters here are scratching their heads what this has to do with the minimum wage.

Businessmen are greedy because the purpose of business is to make profits, not to give you the lifestyle you demand. Are you saying businessmen here are more greedy than those in the U.S?

The only thing worse than greed is envy. Companies are greedy because they are designed to want higher profits and to get that they strive for higher efficiencies, seek markets for goods all of which have benefitial effects on society. It seems to me you don't really care for the sales lady but are just jealous of the businessmen.

If minimum wage is good for this country, why aren't we richer than any of our neighbors who have lower minimum wages?

and wala ko mag selos sa businessmen, i pity the workers that is giving the businessmen the money but aren't well compensated.
Bai like I said the solution is too complicated to discuss in a post. But the problem is simpler so I'll try to explain.

Wages and labor, like everything has to follow the law of economics - supply and demand. Labor is the supply and the demand comes from businesses. On one side, the more businesses there are and the larger these businesses, the greater the demand. On the other hand, the fewer workers there are and the more skills/education they have, the tighter the supply. A basic rule in economics is the tighter the supply and the greater the demand, the higher the price becomes, in this case wages.

Any solution to the problem has to follow the rules of demand and supply. Other countries around us, Singapore especially, understood this a long time ago. So all the policies of their government are guided directly by economic principles and as a result they have achieved consistent growth for decades.

This is why increasing the minimum wage doesn't work. It does nothing to improve demand and supply. From your post I also see that you grossly overestimate the profits of businesses here. If you really studied our businesses as a whole and then compared them to businesses in richer countries, you'll realize just how pathetic our businesses here are. They don't make nearly as much as you think they do because if business here was so profitable, then everyone would want to set up a business here and we all know that simply isn't the case. Businessmen here are also the victims of our bad government, and when businesses suffer the workers suffer as well.

My last point is that the government can increase the minimum wage all they want, but they can never control the purchasing power of the people. Whenever they increase the minimum wage, inflation erodes our purchasing power and everyone is worse off. The effects are temporary and like a crack addict we are forced to keep increasing the minimum wage making it more expensive to do business here while doing nothing to improve our living standards. You're not the only one who's concerned about how much people make here, but your approach isn't going to work. That's all I'm saying...

Yes, the increase is mandatory, regardless of the circumstances of any business, which is quite dangerous. It is forcing people to stop or slow down their business to avoid a high overhead cost. Just because it is mandatory, it doesn't mean it is the right way to go about things.
