I stumbled upon this article sa net....

    GUARDING NATION'S AIRSPACE: PAF'S F-5 RETIRES AFTER 40 YEARS

.....Capt. Ephraim Suyom, spokesman for the Air Defense Wing here, said five of the remaining 10 F5s were still "serviceable" but all of them could be used "in case of war."

"In extreme emergency, you do what you have to do," he said.......
This was said during the decommissioning ceremony of the F-5...
Mura mag "Break glass in case of WAR"...

Wala na bai it's more of a psy ops aron ingnon nga at least "naa pa ikabuga si manoy!", when in reality wala na.

Who would want to fly a coffin... este a fighter plane diay.. when the last incident in May 2002 was caused by the airframe disintegrating in mid air?

its called mothballed status... they used to turn the engine of the F5 once in a while but somewhat it was stopped...

some country just recently retired their F5 assets... sometimes its not the age that matters its how it was maintain in top shape.... a lot of weapon system built before ww1 are still being widely use by most worlds armed forces...

i can see Swiss F5 in "militaryphotos" still in good condition.so as Taiwan and South Korea. "if they can why cant we".? i do hope that they(PAF) somehow stored some f5 that still can be restored and those f5 outside are those beyond economical repair.

Siguro, tunogd kay dili nila pirminti gamiton ang aircraft, because they have other Frontline Fighters.... An aircraft airframe lifespan is counted by flying hours man pud gud dili by years.... Ug ang atoang F-5 kay grabe jud ka mal2x, mao ra man guf ang atoang eroplano, well we have the Crusaders but it didn't last long...

its safe to assume the before they get the F18 for Swiss and F16 for Taiwan and F16,f15 for S,Korea,f5 served as their front line jet fighters, if only the modernization was realize back then we could have save this beautiful jets and served as demonstration jets for Blue Diamonds

Overused na kaayo ang halos tanan flying assets sa AFP.. No amount of maintenance can guarantee the integrity of those birds..
