Banilad Town Centre (BTC) gives life to one of Japan’s festivals, the Kurama Himatsuri or the Fire Festival, on October 26 with a bevy of activities including cosplay and a photo exhibit.
The Himatsuri Festival, which is celebrated with a huge energetic fire, originated from Kurama, a small suburb in Kyoto, Japan. The fire is said to illuminate the path through the world of the living for the spirits of the departed and is celebrated to give a clear guide and path for the living.
BTC brings this colorful, fiery Japanese tradition to Cebu with cosplay skits centering on the Fire Festival, as well as authentic performances from various groups. With cosplay gaining popularity in the Queen City of the South in recent years, it would be an awesome treat to see regular people decked in elaborate, fun, and quirky attires in homage to the Fire Festival. A photo exhibit of Cebu’s key cosplayers will also be unveiled at the lobby during this special day.
The festivities will start with a Japanese pop dance number from the Jpop Dance Troupe to be followed by the cosplay parade. Drumbeaters and poi dancers will also be there to entrance, entertain, and enthrall spectators as we light the fire for our ancestors’ spirits. It will surely be a fun, fun, fun day for both adults and children.
Registration is open to everyone! To join the merrymaking, all you have to do is present an official receipt worth Php 200 from any of the stores at BTC from October 20 to 26 at the Registration Booth on the festival day. Great prizes from Lynelle Hair and Hobbyshaft collectibles await registered cosplayers. Surprise awards are also in store for the Best Male, Best Female, and Best Group participants.
