i think every christian here knows the answer to that question. its played along in their head everyday. *cough* john 3:16 *cough* i dont even know why discussing it has a purpose. it causes no constructive arguments.

what gareb is doing is taking it deeper, to its history, its roots. if ya'll are settled with faith and dogma, so be it. nothing wrong with that. but discussing and arguing about faith is futile IMO. its something personal, therefore somehow untouchable. discussing history and science on the other hand...

Yes we have a purpose and we have freewill as well. I don't believe that we have a predefined purpose or life designed by God. Nope. We're our own pilot.

n`gel: the usage of the word "have" immediately makes the question beg for an answer that it wants to have. it presupposes that indeed, jesus 'had' to die... as if it was predestined. as if there was no other 'way out' for jesus' life but ultimate death the way he died.

which is the very point that i am trying to distance away from. as a subsitute, i raised up the political scenario prior to his death, and the implications to the balance of power if indeed he was allowed to live. in that aspect, seeing from the perspective of the 'powers that be' at that time, jesus simply had to die, so as to preserve the balance of power. this is the reason, from a secular point of view, of jesus' death.

the usage of 'have/had' in this context is not bound, or can stand idependently from such reasons supplied by biblical teachings. even if we put the two lines of reasoning together (religious and secular) we will not have any conflict as they can actually complement each other.

Jesus has to die to save us from sins. His death was our foundation of faith. Without his death we are in different religion.

As a Roman Catholic , I can also make sites similar to that that will make other religions or beliefs a joke if I wanted to . That website is just one of the thousands of HATE and Anti-Christ sites .

here we go... being close-minded yields this kind of reaction...

how shallow can you be? instead of branding it as another site that "demeans christians" why dont you read the content first. that site is full of historical research of how the christian god came to be. from sun god to apollo etc... how writing gospels in the old days seemed like a big trend, it was like the "it" job for them.

btw, i think the author of the site holds masters degrees in comparative philosophy and history. i heard a talk show with him once. very interesting stuff and method for research.

I was never a closeminded individual ..... that is commonsense understanding of an anti religion attack .

Just by saying that understanding it first historically , it was a research but was not 100 % accurate they themselves . Even generally , any historians are not accurate for the only closest thing to that accuracy would be living with the events but we are talking about ages here and not the 50's or the 60's .

Even though he holds a master degree in ninjutsu or whatever you want to call it doesnt make one a credible source . Just because he is educated makes him a right person in all he says and writes . I am not saying either also that I am right by being bias because I have questions also at times that separates from doubts but because of the faith , it was settled .

It is clearly stated alone thru the name of the site as an obvious ANTI CHRIST movement because of all the website names he can think of , he was straight to the point of naming it JESUS DID NOT EXIST . Like I said , if it happens that he is ANTI ISLAM or ANTI BUDDHISM .... do you think he wont make a site also that will show some loopholes that will corrupt the minds and make ISLAM and BUDDHISM look like a joke ?
