For the first time, Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams has given some specific insight into what caused him to pass up his hometown Dallas Mavericks and remain with the Nets for their move to Brooklyn over the summer.

Deron Williams elaborated on choice of Nets over Mavs. Says Mark Cuban's absence at meeting helped cinch decision.—

Deron met w/Carlisle and Donnie Nelson. But he had questions about Mavs' future that only Cuban could answer, he said.—

Cuban missed the crucial meeting with Williams because he was in Californai shooting episodes of “Shark Tank,” the Emmy-winning reality show for which he is a judge, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

So, why did Williams "really" re-sign with the Nets?

So why did point guard Deron Williams wait over three months to say one of the reasons he didn't sign a free agent contract with the Dallas Mavericks was because owner Mark Cuban didn't attend a meeting?

During the free agency period in July, Williams had narrowed his choices down to the Brooklyn Nets and Mavs. The Mavs sent coach Rick Carlisle, general manager Donnie Nelson and special consultant Michael Finley to New York to meet with Williams and try to convince him to sign with the Mavs.

Williams told New York reporters on Monday that the fact Cuban wasn't at the meeting had a major impact on him re-signing with the Nets.

    Really?

Cuban had a prior commitment that required him to be in Los Angeles to tape a segment of his TV show, Shark Tank.

Williams said he needed to ask Cuban about his plans for the future. Uh, couldn't he ask Nelson and Carlisle that?

Williams said Nets general manager Billy King was giving him constant updates of the Nets' plans. The last time I checked, Nelson is in the same role with the Mavs as King is with the Nets.

While Williams was meeting with Nelson, Carlisle and Finley, the Nets executed a trade with Atlanta and acquired Joe Johnson.

After Williams emerged from that meeting with the Mavs' contingent, he said the acquisition of Johnson helped sway him in the direction of the Nets.

Now, he's saying it was Cuban's absence.

So which one is it, Williams? The lame excuse that you chose the Nets over the Mavs because Cuban wasn't there isn't holding water among the Mavs' followers.

A lot of Mavs players were not performing very well on today's game . The bigs like Brand and Kaman couldn't stop FCB's big men . Brand is turning into a washed-up player now . I'm disappointed with Mayo's performance . Crowder only played less than 5 mins ... he was the reason why I watched the game today .

Tomic and Lorbek are great passers and scorers but not good at defense . Former Raptor Nathan Jawai played well off the bench . Mickael , who was on the Mavs training camp way back in 2000 , was the one of the most productive players along with Navarro .

Well , I hope the Mavs knew before the game that FC Barcelona are the Liga ACB champs twice in a row (2010-11, and 2011-12) . Let's just give the Mavs the benefit of the doubt since this is just a preseason game .

wala man jud nay klaro si Cuban... may gani nagpabilin pa na si Dirk diha.. siya na lang jud ang nahabilin nga karaan.. hahaha.. kung loyal pa na si Cuban sa iyang team, wala jud unta to niya bungkaga ilang championship team in the first place, or if not, gihatagan ug extension si JT..

meaning mas importante pa ang iyang TV show kaysa iyang NBA team..

I love Mark Cuban! His personality is so out there. I read his book, very inspirational. He didn't have it easy. From almost nothing to a billionaire, perfect example of someone who's living the American dream.
