i, too doubted the validity of that post. BUT without hesitation, i shared it to many people as much as i could. simple ra kaayo ang reason,- to let them know that threats like this will happen under that stupid law. actually this abuse happens almost everyday in the real world, maglisud lang jud ta ug palag. let's try to see the bigger picture, weigh things out.

Sotto also reminded critics of the law not to use the Internet to destroy other people's reputations.
Sotto DID use the Internet to destroy his own reputation.

Wrong analogy. Our request is like recalling a car due to faulty parts which is very risky when used. As I've said all over again, the issue here does not focus only in libel though this is the most talked about topic. The reason why we need to repeal the entire law is to keep us away from abuse due to unconstitutional provisions found in this act. You already know what sections are those. Repealing EACH provision will require a lot of time and resources. And given that libel will be repealed, that does not stop other unconstitutional provisions to take effect.

The insertion of libel gives us a sign that in future laws, legislators may use this practice to protect themselves or for personal interests by inserting provisions not approved by Congress. Isn't this crazy? This shocked me when I knew that the passed bill ( HB 5808 ) does not contain any libel provision.

    ONLINE LIBEL

You have other similar posts which can be considered as libelous, but I'm too lazy to dig them up. And as long as these stay online, you can be held liable. Just pray Teletech doesn't sue your sorry ass.

Now unlike you, I don't want to live in a country that has its people muzzled and suppressed. I might think your opinions make you a bitch/asshole, but I will gladly stand up for your right to express yourself on the Web. Heck, some of the posts and threads here on iStorya are dumb as fÜck, but should they be policed because they're offensive? No, because freedom of expression is what the Internet is about (of course, this site's administrators are free to do what they want with uploaded content).

What's next, jailing people for having conversations on why the government sucks balls? This policing of the Internet is a hair away from it.
may pa ning moderator sa istorya compare sa goverment. mute/banned for life vs imprisonment >.<

    Thanks for the clarification.

The inclusion of the word "real" there has completely thrown me off. Statement of facts, whether it causes emotional anguish to the affected parties, should NEVER be punishable by law. What are we supposed to do? Keep our mouths shut about certain real issues since our politicians can't handle criticism?

ang katong PNP "dummy page" was to me the real deal. it had a lot of followers, ang contents ato kay puro official newsletters from the PNP. I was following the said "dummy page". If they said that it was a dummy online then the PNP itself is a great example of not everything online is real. Adding to that, the PNP said this "We do not issue any official statements or any comments online" - yet they posted a formal disclaimer about the dummy page online. Who should we believe online? unless we register our DNA to use the internet every time we type the internet will be a free entity!

    and I quoted
"Huwag muna manira. Napakadali lang naman. All they have to do is do what they usually do, there is freedom of expression and freedom of speech with the media,"
not everyone has the privileged to go to media, and freedon of speech is different from freedom of the press.
