    I am a proponent of "Teach the programming skills/mindset first. Then, teach the language." For teaching programming skills/mindset, it's better to use something that has an easier syntax like Python or Ruby. Once they have the mind of a programmer, then you start giving them low-level languages like C or C++.

    here how i started, Stages of my programming experienced

    1) QBasic (1997, high school 4th year)
    2) Turbo Pascal/C, Assembly Language (1998, college 1st year)
    3) VBScript/Javascript/HTML (1999, college 2nd year)
    4) Visual Basic Application (MS Office) (2000, college 3rd year/innodata)
    5) Visual Basic 5/6 (2000-2003, college 3rd year/innodata/2003 i dropped out at college)
    6) Visual Basic .net (2003, innodata/2003 i dropped out at college)
    7) ASP/PHP (2006-onward, innodata/ACS/smarttraffic/conchology/bigfoot)
    XUL/Python/Java (bigfoot)

    i agree with this. this should be the first, to give students a solid foundation before going to programming. at the very least, they should know flowcharting.

    tudlui na lang na silag OpenGL og DirectX9, kundi Physics SDKs.. :P
