Frequently Asked Questions
---The Studio---
Q: What is the history of QuickSteps?
A: QuickSteps started at the beginning of 2011. It quickly grew to become the largest ballroom/Latin dancing studio in Adelaide. QuickSteps has invested a lot of money in the business and it continues to grow at a fast rate, which is the reason we need to look outside of Australia for dance teachers.
Q: How many teachers at QuickSteps?
A: There are current 6 teachers working at QuickSteps and 2 support staff.
Q: What is Adelaide like?
A: Adelaide is the 5th biggest city in Australia with a population of 1 million people. Adelaide has been named in the 10 most livable cities in the whole world in The Economist Livability Index for the past year. In 2012, we were ranked 5th. Adelaide has a high quality of living due to low crime, low traffic, lots of art and culture and high wages.
Q: How many students does QuickSteps have?
We currently teach 100 lessons a week. Every student in our school learns through private and group lessons. Students cannot just take group classes. We would have in excess of 200 regular students.
Q: What type of dances do you teach?
We teach all the partner dances - ballroom/Latin and the swing dances
---About Emigration/Citizenship---
Q: Are there any upfront costs payable to QuickSteps?
A: No. Absolutely no. The candidate however much pay for transport to Manila for the interview/auditions. The candidate would also have to pay for their health checks and TOEFL exams.
Q: Philippines have strict laws about recruitment. Do you comply with all regulations?
A: Yes, we do. Our recruitment drive is sanctioned by the Labour Attachι to the Philippines Embassy in Australia. We are providing a permanent work/living visa in Australia. We therefore fall under different Filipino legislation than workers who receive a temporary work/living visa when working overseas.
Q: What type of Visa would I be provided with?
A: The success applicant(s) will be provided with a permanent visa. For more details, look here:
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
Q: I don't have a passport? Is that a problem?
A: No this is not a problem. You can apply for a passport once you receive a job offer
Q: I don't think my English is TOEFL level 6 right now. Is this a problem?
A: You will need to improve your English before you come to Australia. The Australian government will only grant you a visa if you have a level of TOEFL 6 or higher in all categories. There are many English schools in the Philippines that can help you get to this level. At the interview, Michelle and Sebastien from QuickSteps will judge your level of conversational English, as this is what is important as a dance teacher
Q: What is the dance industry like in Australia?
A: Dancing is not as big in Australia as it is in the Philippines. It is very difficult to hire experienced male teachers. However there are lots of single women who want to learn dancing. That is why we are recruiting in the Philippines
Q: How long until I (and family) move to Australia?
A: The processing of the permanent visa takes 6-9 months. The teacher must start working within 6 months after receiving the visa. If everything goes smoothly, the teacher could expect to start working and living in Australia between October 2013 and January 2014.
Q: Can I get Australian citizenship?
A: The permanent working/living visa that the teacher would receive allows the teacher to receive full Australian citizenship after 4 years. This is on the conditions that the teacher meets all relevant criteria (like not committing criminal acts etc). For more information about Australian citizenship, go to:
Australian Citizenship – Becoming an Australian Citizen
---The job---
Q: What hours would I be working?
A: Full time teachers would be working 6 days a week. Mon-Fri in the afternoons/evenings, and Sundays during the day.
Q: What tasks would I be doing?
A: Running a studio isn't only about teaching. Teachers help out in cleaning the studio, serving customers drinks, and doing all the tasks to keep a studio running. However, the more students you have, the fewer other jobs you will have time to do!
Q: How much would I be earning? Does the pay stay the same?
A: You would be earning $40,000 Australian Dollars per year for full time work. The Australian Dollar is similar to the American Dollar. Teachers also receive an extra 9% which is placed in a savings account for retirement. After the initial 3 years where the salary stays the same, teachers who have succeeded in retaining and building a loyal student base would see their income rise to up to $60,000 per year.
Q: What sort of annual leave do I get?
A: Employees in Australia receive 4 weeks holiday per year
Q: Are you hiring female dancers?
A: At this stage, we are not hiring female dance teachers.
---About the audition/interviews---
Q: What is the structure of the application process?
A: Candidates' resumes will be screened, and certain candidates will be invited for an interview. A decision will be made that day, and some candidates will be asked to return the following day for interviews and auditions.
Q: How many candidates will you be auditioning/interviewing on the 24th and 25th?
A: We will cap the number of candidates to be auditioned and interviewed to 40 candidates.
Q: Why are you interviewing on 24th and 25th of September
A: QuickSteps schedule is busy. Between October and March we are very busy, so September is the only time Sebastien Ananian-Cooper and Michelle Robinson from QuickSteps are able to come to Manila
Q: Where will you be interviewing?
A: We will be interviews and auditioning in a location in Manila, most likely in the Makati area. Final location will be provided to applicants who submitted their application through our website at
Untitled Document .
Q: I can't be there on the 24th and 25th September. Can I still apply?
A: It is highly advised that you make yourself available on these days. You will certainly be placed at an advantage to other applicants who are not present. We will be interviewing from early to late, so you should find an available time.
If it is absolutely impossible for you to attend the interviews and auditions on the 24th and 25th of September (for example, you are currently working overseas, then we may arrange for you to submit a video resume). Rest assured that if you do send us a video resume, we will certainly watch it.
Q: What are you looking for in a candidate?
A: We are looking for people to add to the fun and vibrant atmosphere in our studio. Obviously a high degree of dance teaching knowledge is also a must.
