Actually, The Avengers have/had "gods" on their roster, or members with god-like powers. The Scarlet Witch is probably the most powerful among its members, with the ability to alter reality itself. The Sentry had the power of "a thousand exploding suns", but too bad he was a headcase. And then there's the Hulk and Thor.

Heck, with all the new revelations in his book, (the man behind weapon x program?, and he's supposed to be the real man behind the creation of x-men?) I'm not surprised.
