Under the table og uban pa na mananap ang pamaagi kasagaran which is not the way sa mga American og uban foreign investors.

Philippine economy grows 5.9% in second quarter

The Philippines said Thursday the economy grew a better-than-forecast 5.9 percent in the three months to June, largely due to a strong services sector.
And the government said the second-quarter figures -- which also saw growth in the first half at 6.1 percent after a strong 6.3 percent expansion in January-March -- would continue for the rest of 2012.
"The resilient services sector remained the main driver of growth," said Lina Castro, secretary general of the National Statistics Coordination Board.
Independent analysts had widely predicted 5.4 to 5.8 percent growth in the second quarter.
Castro said the services sector had accounted for 4.3 percentage points of the growth figure for the three-month period, while industry accounted for 1.5 percentage points and agriculture 0.1 points.
The figures led Socio-economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan to predict "we will be close to the upper end of the (5.0-6.0 percent) range", for the whole of 2012.
The momentum of growth "will not dissipate in the succeeding quarters", he told reporters.
He cited "accelerated government spending on infrastructure" for helping growth, as well as low inflation, improved exports, rising tourist arrivals and the continued remittances of about 10 million Filipino overseas workers.
A rash of storms and heavy rains that caused massive flooding in Manila and surrounding areas in recent months were unlikely to have a huge effect on the growth rate in 2012, Balisacan added.
"Their impact on agriculture was quite modest and their likely impact (on the whole economy) was also quite modest," he said.
But he warned that the economy faced challenges for the rest of the year stemming from the global economic slowdown and the expected return of the "El Nino" weather phenomenon.

Foreign equity restrictions na sobra ra ka paranoid ug usa sab sa mga barriers of more foreign investments; kinsay boang na foreign investors (venture capitalists) na mo-invest sa iyang kaugalingon kapital kung wala siyay option na i-control 100% ang iyang kaugalingon capital ug palisod-lisodon ug pangita ug local na dummy na rich enough to front the 60%?

Kung gamiton nako ang imong argument na political stability is a key for foreign investments to come in our country, how come that COCA-COLA is able to set-up their bottling in Somalia despite of the absense of legitimate government since 1991?:

walay investor mo pagawas ug kwarta kung walay political stability..
At least, allowing 100% ownership for the point of foreign investors would make them feel safe of investing here in our country than we have right now.

Think of this, in Brazil, in order for a foreign-owned business to set-up their business, they had to wait 166 DAYS with 17 PROCEDURES compared to us that is way shorter with 80 DAYS and 17 PROCEDURES and yet, Brazil, which allows 100% FDI, attracts more foreign investors than us because foreign investors feels more financial security of investing there than here in our country. Nothing such thing as silver bullet but allowing 100% FDI is a first step for the government to gain more confidence to foreigners.

@joseph: ilang target growth rate is between 5-6% rman cguro.. why fix it if ain't broke.. given naay restrictions nga 60/40 but still ni grow man ta, nganong atong usbon man gyud?
5-6% GDP growth is not enough to trickle-down the economic growth unto the working and lower classes and most of all, not enough to decrease the high level of poverty of this country.

naa nay momentum, gamay push nlang lupad nah..

Filipino companies DOES COMPETE internationally. Jolibee is able to compete with McDonalds for the Overseas Filipino market; San Miguel Corporation is able to prosper and thrive in Hong Kong; Liwayway Corporation (makers of Oishi) is able to tap the vast mainland Chinese market; ICTSI of Enrique Razon is able to own a large port in Santos, Brazil, the primer port of Brazil.

Filipino-owned businesses are already part of globalized world as I mentioned above. Businesses which really competitive really don't need protectionist laws to thrive. Excess regulations like what we have right now, hampers businesses especially small-and medium from thriving.

fact is... strongest-performing economy doesnt translate to strongest economy its just the world is affected by the western situation and we.. having a unique economy (remittance & consumer base) which is somewhat resistant to global financial shocks are faring well compared to other countries. This had been proven during the financial crisis back in the 1990s and even during the global crisis in mid 2000s in which we manage to grow while most countries suffers/decline. The sad part is... when the global economy is healthy we aint competing well with our neighbors strange isnt it lol... you can enumerate a list of why is that the case and believe me, the answers will only center on poor economic policies.

Funny how we only manage to grow... 5.9% on Q2 last time i check they say we will perform better than Q1. i thought nilambo atong economy under Penoy admin. wa pa gani ka breached past 7% compared sa GMA admin.

hapit na magkatunga ang penoy administration... so by 2013 to 2016, ato target is over 10% per quarter to achieve that 8% growth

you never failed to make me laugh jack.... well in your behalf, you said it yourself daghan mogamit sa imong account so the benefit of doubt is on you
