The Vengeance Trilogy is worth checking out but tends to be overrated especially Oldboy.

I prefer though this New Wave of Korean Violence Cinema over the French "Splat Pack" (Martyrs, Inside, High Tension, Frontiere(s), and other movies by Laugier, Aja, Bustillo, Murray, Gens, etc).

Park Chan-wook is easily the most popular Korean movie director worldwide today because of the notorious reputation of his Vengeance Trilogy but if you get into Korean cinema, I suggest you also check out films by these filmmakers who I think are the real deal: Hong Sang-soo, Kim Ki-duk, Lee Chang Dong, Ki Young-kim, Bong Joon Ho, Kim Ji-woon. Research lang sa ilang movies. hehe.

Of all Chan-wook's films though I think I liked JSA: Joint Security Area the most. And of the 3 vengeance trilogy, I liked Mr. Vengeance. But "Thirst" is interesting too.

Good to know you liked "Incendies."

yeah, i really liked "incendies".. i told some of my friends about the movie.. some of them liked it pero ang uban, di ganahan. well, it's just natural that we have different tastes when it comes to movies..
kakita na pud diay ko sa "secret word of arriety" based on your suggestion.. my wifey and kids had a good time watching it.

Yeah, I can see why "Incendies" would not be for everyone because of its operatic tone and length but if you are patient enough you will be rewarded.

That's super cool to know that your family liked "Arriety." I really liked it too.

I watched it recently again with my pamangkins and guess what, maski wa ni work sa TV ang subtitle we all loved it. Ako ra gi-relate nila unsay conversation because the flow of the story is very simple nga di kinahanglan complex dialogue so we didn't need to understand their language, and yet this needed complexity is highly compensated for by the masterful artwork and animation. I think this is one of the main reasons why it is such a really good film, way better than what Pixar can concoct. haha

Try Max Manus, one of the best...a Norwegian Film....or Headhunters... both movies are 9/10 with 7 plus rating in IMBD so you can never go wrong with both...
