^^To fast or not to fast.. its really a choice. Free will and all.
But despite being a common religious practice (meaning every old religion encourages it, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity), scientific studies have shown that there are GREAT health benefits in practicing fasting.

And how about its spiritual aspect? Well, do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? ~1 Corinthians 6:19, New American Standard Bible.
In short, having a healthy body allows one to have ample strength to do service in God's glory.
Please consider that.

Fasting is done if we ask something to God that we need it to happen.
But Fasting should be done secretly and let no one knows it.
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 6:16-18.
Fasting in the bible is done without eating and drinking according to our body capabilities.
There are other fasting aside from eating.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22.
Peace!
sorry bro but i am just laughing my butt off here. for your sake, i just hope nga i misunderstood your post. are you saying that we should also fast that which is good? or are you simply stressing verse 22? but abstaining is different from fasting.Originally Posted by rcruman

Fasting is abstaining, the "fast in verse 21" doesn't mean fasting but rather quick.
Fasting is abstaining or refuse to eat or from eating.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22.
We need to abstain from all appearance of evil and that is fasting in evil works (drinking,smoking,gambling,drugs,&etc.)
English word has other meaning like:
left= left side or what is left
right= right side or right arm or right (sakto)
back= luyo or balik
fast= puasa or quick
Peace!
The use of the "fast" word in here, doesnt mean about the fast or the so called abstinence... rather ... HOLD FAST ...means..to HOLD ON... to something. It test your strength to which hanggang asa ka taman. The more nga maka tagal ka, the better21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22.
Peace!
