I think you misunderstand his intention just like you dont understand the leadership in china. Its not that they dont care about freedom its more like they dont think freedom should be at any cost. They value economic progress of their people above democratic rights. I think that prosperity of the citizen should be a part of human rights. In our country we often have the mentality that we should have unlimited freedom and so if we have this we are better off than anybody even if majority of people have a hard time economically and struggling to make ends meet.
Our leaders think it doesnt matter if our country is poor as long as we have democracy. Who are they kidding? This is a question that everyone should consider for themselves.
Sorry bai, but a free press is absolutely essential and a country that imprisons and murders it's own citizens out of paranoia no matter how well it's economy is doing cannot call itself civilized. In the case of China the state is so arrogant that the law does not protect the people, only the party.
Apart from what I've already mentioned Mahathir Mohamad has also gone on record as being sympathetic to the Nazis and has been implicated in a homosexual smear campaign against a political rival to have him arrested for sodomy. Now tell me... did he have the people's best interests at heart when he did that?
I don't believe that bai.. Singapore doesn't have free press but they're doing much better than we are. Also, are you confusing China with North Korea? I've been to China and I've never seen this mass imprisonment or murder of its citizen that you mention.
I haven't heard about this bai but even if this were true, being sympathetic to nazis isn't the same thing as condoning what they did. It's like saying Hitler did some good for Germany isn't the same thing as saying Hitler is a good person. I wouldn't say Malaysia, China or even Singapore are saints when it comes to dealing with their citizens, but if you're saying they are less civilized than us just because they don't have a free press, I think you've got your priorities all mixed up. If you say a free press is essential to a country, I'd tell you that a strong private sector with a rich middle class is even moreso important.Apart from what I've already mentioned Mahathir Mohamad has also gone on record as being sympathetic to the Nazis and has been implicated in a homosexual smear campaign against a political rival to have him arrested for sodomy. Now tell me... did he have the people's best interests at heart when he did that?
In which country did the worse massacre of journalists happen in recent history? And how long do you think Philippines will remain a democracy if our system continues to fail to deliver a better life for most people? Mahatir maybe has a personal agenda and maybe a few things he does don't have the interests of his people in mind, but that's still better than all our nincompoop governments that never get their mind beyond getting themselves elected so they can steal more of our money.

Sad but true.
Singapore is one of my favorite places, it is however anomalous in that it is one of the few nations to have been fortunate enough to be competently and humanely governed by that very rare breed... the benevolent autocrat. Singapore has nothing much to hide, China on the other hand is a very different story:
"I'd rather see a Philippines run like HELL by Filipinos" - Manuel Luis Quezon
go to hell Philippines...
or it is time for a Revolution now?
