I don't think the story has evolved at all. What's in the newer RE that wasn't already revealed in the original? We have the T-virus, umbrella, zombies.. I dunno I haven't played all of them, but the ones I've played haven't made huge changes to the story. The bad guys are the same bad guys, the virus is the same T virus etc etc....

Gameplay wise, no question things have changed. But that doesn't mean they can't be compared. This is the same series after all, it's still Resident Evil.

hmmm well... if that's is for you. but for me. i found it evolved because the time i played RE4. i found the series something new. There was the US president, president's daughter, the Los Ganados (the damn villagers.. but wait.. they're not really zombies after all), the Las Plagas (the damn parasites), Los Illuminados, Saddler, Krauser and what the heck.. I didn't know them before...

The story didn't evolve in RE:4, it was a completely new story that had nothing to do with the other series except for the character. The story didn't evolve, RE:4 could have been a completely new series and nobody would care. In fact, the original version of RE:4 became Devil May Cry, did you know that?
