Most of the companies are using CMS. Web designing nowadays are becoming complex unlike before you are taught only HTML. Now you have to learn not just HTML but also CSS, jQuery, AJAX, PHP, Javascript and MySQL, and more. I do believe that new generation web designer requires a lot of tools.

Web Designing is different from Web Developer IMO.
There are 2 types of Web Developer, CSS/HTML & CMS Developer

Best if you master one field (e.g.: design / CSS / CMS)

Suggestion lng nko, dont be a 1 man team, kay ang resulta ana you'll make the job easy and amateurish from design (PSD) to code (CSS) and develop (CMS)

CMS bai simply because websites, if not, the whole web, is all about content now. Content is king. Content is what brings new users in and what makes existing users stay.

Now, being able to manage all your content without having to rely on a developer is very important for a business. Sauna mn gd, ug negosyo ka nga naay website, either kbaw ka mag tweak sa imo site or naa kay developer on your payroll. Dli ni siya maayo na business model. Kalas kaayo kay mahal pd bya nang naa kay dev nya unsa ray trabaho, butang lng ug bag-ong blog post or bag-ong content.

Mao na siya. Pero ayaw mo pagproblema ana kay ang CMS is just another layer of abstraction, that we developers have thought up into existence pra ang mga regular users kay dli magkapuliki. It's still made out of PHP/Python/Ruby/Perl/C/C++. It's still the same languages na inyo gi tun-an. Think of it lang as a more complex version of programming libraries.

And as a tip lng noh, from someone who has had to go through all the hoops. The fastest way to learn any of these applications is by creating a theme jd. Wordpress, joomla, drupal. Kaning mga major lng. Practisi ug himo ug theme from the ground up. Kay ma agi-an jd nimo halos tanan na imo kelangan ma kat-onan. Sunod ana, modules/plugins napd imo trippan. Pero ato lng na i-reserve pra sunod na sturya.

my first encounter with a CMS is with wordpress that time needed pag special nga theme (kay blog platform rajud siya wala kaayo na optimize as a CMS) to make wordpress into an effective CMS... everyday i have to make atleast 3-4 CMS theme for wordpress before...

after trying other system like Joomla, Drupal,Mambo, osCommerce, Magento and most of all elgg didto nako na realize ang mga limitations, it really got me very frustrated so i end up making own CMS in less than 48 hrs (little sleep and a lot of coffee, hence where i got my nick before the COFFEEMAN)... that time i was starting to learn dynamic websites and what you can do with URL rewrite so i give it a try atleast karon im proud to say that the CMS i made couple years ago has stand the test of time its currently on its version 2, it even has its own lite version for small websites (Dumb-Namic) and some advanced version for modular websites (Version 2)...

ayaw focus CMS lang, pag practice sa Dynamic and Adaptive Systems (i just made this up, hehehehe but who knows...) kay ang CMS is just one of them...
