Hezbollah has always been openly linked with Syria and the al-Assads. This became apparent going up in 2000s when Israel ended its occupation in Lebanon and immediately after.

The scenario, and how US and NATO will exploit the situation is like a double edge sword. Two things to consider:

Supporting the Alawite-led Assad government would be a hindrance to US/ NATO plans in the middle east, since an Assad-led government maintains a strong presence of Russian and Chinese influence in the area, also strengthening Venezuelan oil exchange and Iran's military might. The Assad led Syria is a very important strategic ally for these communist nations in the middle east, and is the only remaining ally. This is something the West wouldn't want to compromise.

Supporting the Sunni-led opposition creates strength for radical islamic groups which is dangerous to the Jewish state, a very close US ally.
Sunni Islamist groups such as Hamas, Al-Qaeda and Hizb ut-Tahrir have voiced their support for the Syrian opposition. Supplying Western-made weapons for Sunni-led activists may fall to the wrong hands.

I totally agree with this. Egypt already taken over by Muslim Brotherhood which threatened to break the Camp David Peace accord.

Israel will be the biggest loser here, it will be surrounded with Islamist in its borders.

This proxy war is more on the US/NATO/GCC vs Russia/China/Iran pipeline chess match.

On my perspective, the Assad government should be toppled to shed Russian/ Chinese/ Iranian power from the region. But in order to avoid the Jewish state from getting doomed with terror attacks and a possible invasion, US/NATO should implement an " Ironfist" mandate to the new government, securing the same democracy and severing the Sunni-led regime ties with the radical groups.

Could be for protection of their naval base or sending another weapons to Assad.
