Developer Maxis has released three screenshots for the new SimCity, depicting the reboot's in-game environments. SimCity is the fifth main installment to the long-running series by EA Maxis.

Until today, concept art was only released but fans can now get a taste of what to expect from the city-building simulation title via a new batch of images. The in-game screens showcase the commendable graphical attributes of the title.

The new SimCity will feature an in-depth multiplayer component including cloud saves, player statistics, and interactions with other real-life players. It'll also support "tens of thousands" of people and vehicles, which can all be moving at once.

The reboot is currently scheduled for a 2013 launch. It is exclusive to the PC and will be available from both brick-and-mortar stores and digital retailers like EA's very own Origin service, as well as third party platforms like Steam.

Up until last year, I was still playing SimCity 4, thanks to the tons of modded-content available on the internet. It has a great modding community that provides unique contents that are easily accessible online. Even to this day, they're still developing lots of mods and contents to make the game even better.

When SimCity 4 was release in back in 2003, there were aspects of the game that weren't finished. One example is the pathfinding ability of its Sims - lots of gamers complained that citizens of their city simply didn't take the shortest path from their location to their intended destination. The modding community would later fixed this "bug".

Years later, when modders started tinkering with the game's code, they found out that the developers originally planned to include a "real" highway (up to 10 lanes) but abandoned the feature when the game was rushed to the market. Modders pick up where the developers left off and develop this into a usable and fully functional mod. Here's its wiki: RealHighway. For me, RealHighway is one of the reason why gamers still play this today. It allowed a buggy game to look like well polished product.

I hope EA would eventually allow for mod support. We all know this company is more known for its über-marketing blitzes than for releasing a finished and bug-less games.
