Default Re: Appeal to our Business Owners - Please Give Consumers a Choice to Buy NON-CHINA Made!

without products made in China, prices for most goods would be much higher today... even if something is made in somewhere, the price is still adjusted to compete with lesser priced chinese items... Just the mere existence of cheap chinese goods, forced other businesses to shed a peso or two in their respective commodities.. Directly, and indirectly, the consumer benefits from chinese products as a whole.

If we fully implement a protectionist stand against chinese goods, we can effectively do that by imposing excessive tariffs, banning some products, or subsidized local products. But that would mean an increase cost of living for everyone, without necessarily increasing the quality of products. We will be paying more for something that could have been paid less... How many commodities does one filipino use on a daily basis? Just stack up the increase in prices, and we effectively lower the standard of living across the board.

I think you mean an increased "cost" of living.

Very difficult to avoid Chinese products in this age of inter-dependency, but consumers should at least be made aware of the situation. I think many people are totally oblivious to balance of trade and GDP.

exactly my point that "china-made" isn't necessarily cheaper kay many businesses still price them as if they were made in Germany.

Again, this isn't easy and this isn't for everyone especially on the consumer side where most of us don't have a choice. At least for businesses, I'm hoping they will try to give us a choice to buy the same item that isn't made in china just because some of us prefer not to buy them for whatever reason.

So for us consumers, just be vigilant and get the "barato ang china made" mentality out of your system. Its surely not true all the time.

I'm happy to say that I was able to buy a pair of shoes last month that weren't made in china. It took me me at least twice the time though to get to them in SM. But the feeling was rewarding.

I bought it for P1,200 while all other china-made were pegged at 800-1,500.

Also, just so everyone would know as well, china's edge in lower labor costs have started to depreciate. It has to and at the pace of their growth, this edge is going to be gone in no time. Do a quick google and you'll find stories like this all over the place: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/18/op...p-no-more.html

Soon enough, china-made will be arrogant enough to price themselves as if they were made in Japan. Seen the prices of Cherry cars? 700-800k? OMG! mas barato pa Toyota corolla nga vanilla?

And for those who think the sky will fall without china-made goods, where was china-made before 2000s? Sure they existed but not to the extent it is now. Did the world have a problem back then? Sure it did. But we still managed didn't we?

cost of living will always increase. that's one of the things we can't avoid in Life. In fact, if you really think about it. back in 2000, Jollibee chicken meal was pegged at P35. That was before china-made has taken over us. Now that china-made is king for the many, Jollibee chicken meal is now what? P80? Maybe china-made helped in raising our cost of living after all?

Maayo na imong hagit sa mga negosyante TS, but I'm afraid that will fall on deaf ears. We live in the golden age of capitalism. As long as cheap ang labor sa China, adtu gyud ang kasagaran manufacturer punta.

I would not entertain the idea that china INCREASED the cost of living because it is just illogical. They sell cheaper prodcuts ergo increased cost of living? i think that is economically impossible.

The cost of living is more directly influenced by government spending...the more debt incurred by the government, the more it needs to inflate money supply, the more prices will increase... So, in an inflated economy, the existence of cheap products are a blessing to the people...

But you are partly correct on one thing, cost of living almost always increase.... but that is the fault of the Fiat Monetary system the world has adopted..which is a different subject of discussion.
