I don't like the government meddling with what we do inside our homes. If they're really concerned about nature conservation they should plant trees themselves, clean the streets, get drainage systems working etc. that's where our tax is going in the first place. It's really quite disgusting the way they're ransoming families into doing this because of their own ineptitude.
I don't see the harm, in fact I think it could be a good exercise in social bonding. A big problem with this country is lack of direction, people live from day to day in a sort of helpless, almost nihilistic existence. A non-religious ritual such as this would (in my opinion) create a sense of pride and accomplishment which all could share. Certainly this is a much better idea than turning Earth Day into a monthly affair as recently suggested.

i agree nga magplant ug tree per child, but the penalty, masmaayo lang unta pareha sa china nga once mosobra na ug, let's say 3 kids naa na penalty ky alangan naman lang pud tawn madiscourage nalang manganak tungod ky penalty daun maski 1st born pa lang gai..

but i think one of the roots of our country's problem is over population.. masdaghan tao, masdaghan gutomon..that's why i support the RH bill..

i don't see RH as legalizing abortion, in fact, it is preventing abortion from happening in the first place..i define abortion as killing an existing life..in my belief, you are not committing abortion by preventing conception..

prankahay lang lisod jud na mapugngan ang libido, that's as natural as anyone getting hungry(for food that is). best way ana is to do some preventive measures like protection(condoms for example) & proper s*x education..dapat ang kana mga pobre or squatters should be aware on these preventive measures before indulging to their urges..

masmaayo pud unta naa mga free giveaways on condoms sa mga health centers sa barangay pud ta bitaw..

That's a problem right there too. We have a choice to be more active in society or not. The government shouldn't be dictating individuals what to do even if it APPEARS to be the good of all. That sounds like Socialism to me. We have our own pursuits and responsibilities to which other people might see fatalistic or nihilistic but that's how individual rights work, we reap what we sow. If a person wants to ask the government for welfare then he has the right to, but only on behalf of himself and his family not the entire community.

Example: I adhere to rights of animals. But I do not agree we should ban consumption of meat all together because some people see it as cruel. That'd be the minority dictating the majority and taking their liberties based on their stance on animals. If a person wants to be vegetarian because killing animals for food is cruel than that's his pursuit then go ahead.

You don't force such things on people. You offer incentives. That's how governments successfully encourage ordinary people to make socially responsible choices, whether it's by caring for the environment more, reducing their energy/carbon footprint or paying it forward in general.

Those condoms they're distributing are not free. People will be paying for those, from our taxes. That's how welfare works. The more the government opens up welfare programs, the higher we'll pay for taxes on behalf of people who live on them.

Distributing condoms and contraceptives is basically useless in a community that are not educated in the first place. They'll just be empowered to use it and the results would backfire like in Africa where the distribution of condoms caused a large surge of AIDS victims because its availability made people more complacent to engage in ***.

There are a lot of abandoned kids in this country, the situation is actually quite shocking and I have pondered many times why is Philippines this way.

The act of planting a tree is not only good for the environment, it is symbolic of a new beginning and of an individual's responsibility and duty not only to himself, but to his child and to society in general. If you were to emigrate to say Australia apart from strict requirements regarding work, money and education they also place great emphasis on the oath which you take and this is not something that people deride or complain about, it is in fact a source of great national pride. We need something like that here, something separate from the church, an act of patriotism with a purpose. People feel compelled to stand to attention when they hear the national anthem or stop in their tracks for a prayer on the supermarket speaker system. For me something like this has far more meaning and relevance. Get people focused on the future and create pride...real pride based on the collective efforts of a people with at least one common purpose.
