a 'free/alternative' solution of "(almost) shutdown..., i.e. Standby" of the sorts are of below:

for instance..., Windows XP users may try Start -> Control Panel -> Power Options

then na-a diha "System standby:" then choose the value where you want the PC to go to standby

for example you set it to 5mins..., if the PC you configured is in "idle" mode for 5mins..., then it will start to standby


Standby has its pro's and con's
pros:
● once wakened-up.., it will be almost instant on! (compared to cold boot)
● ambot unsa pa ^_^

cons:
● eat a small amount of electricity ^_^ (but its better than an unused idle PC)
