You're not my customer. I have nothing to sell you. You're saying that because you want to be on the "privileged" end of the argument, to make it appear as if I have to somehow "conform" to what you like because you're some special entity that I need to bow down upon. You are not. So stop painting yourself in that light.

Since I was lucky enough to be quoted by the thread starter, I'm going to give my two cents and clear up some misconceptions.

First, we do listen to comments. What we do not listen to is to the random internet thug that tells us how to do things. iSTORYA has existed for more than nine years. How many other forums have started and died within that time? How many Filipino forums have grown as big and as gracefully as iSTORYA? Yes 70-80% of the success of iSTORYA is due to it's members. I might even go so far as to say that 100% of iSTORYA's success is due to it's members. But ... BUT ... what the thread starter fails to recognize is the small few who hoot and holler does not equal the stated 70-80% that the thread starter mentions. It does not even equal .0001%. iSTORYA currently has over 111,000 users. I'm just going to put this out there ... but less than 1 in 10,000 is an asshole that we want to ban outright. Many users after a quick run-in with a moderator shape up quick and rarely have another encounter with a mod.

For every asshole we get, there are hundreds if not thousands over the course of the years that our mods have helped. For every internet asshole we get, our mods make lasting friendships with many more others. For every asshole who likes to hide behind the cloud of anonynimity the internet provides, we have hundreds that turn up at our eyeball meetings, at our iSTORYA based groups. For every internet asshole we get, iSTORYA connects a lot more friendships amongst it's members. For every internet asshole we get, iSTORYA has connected a lot more lovers, a lot more marriages, a lot more humanity.

Administrators, BeoR, MrsBeoR, and I have given them leeway to be human and make judgement calls. Moderators may seemingly act in a harsh manner that may seem abusive ... but people forget that iSTORYA has lasted this long not because we let members act the way they want, but because we set boundaries in what users can do or say when they are at iSTORYA.

People say we are biased and to that I say ... of course we are biased. Moderators were chosen for a reason and will not be kicked out for every Jack and Jill that complains. I made rodsky a moderator. It was my decision and my decision only. The only other factor was me asking BeoR ... "I'm going to make rodsky moderator". He said "I'm cool with that" ... and he became moderator. With that said, I HAVE NEVER received a message about the way rodsky moderates. If none of you can complain through the right avenues, what makes you think that the people who can do something about it (the ones with red names) will actually listen? Yes we listen to our users, but not those who think they are above due process. We do not listen to those who insult and belittle others, but yet ask to be respected. We do not listen to those who say "we should treat mods w/ respect? duh, wa man gani ni silay respeto." The community was here before you. When you come to our playground, you respect the caretakers.

You are not our customer. You do not buy a service from us. We offer a service that you may choose to participate in or not. You are part of our community just as you are part of the community you live in. You, the moderators, and administrators are not people separated by fences. We all take part in this community. But just as there are rules in society, there are also rules in iSTORYA. If you do not like how things are run, screaming and yelling makes you look like a fool and you get kicked out of our community. You do not become a martyr just as the town buang does not become a hero. You are simply an outright dumbass. Many will take your side and be vocal about it, but be assured that the small number that say anything for you masks the much greater number that think you are a total dumbass. The anonymity the internet provides is a breeding ground for internet assholes who wouldn't say what they say online ... in real life. In real life I have fists, knives and guns to deal with assholes. On the internet, we have bans.

Questions? Comments? Send me a visitor message. If it is personal in nature like COMPLAINING ABOUT rodsky, send me a PM. I probably won't reply unless you make a real good argument ... and not very many have.

Yes, I said asshole ... because that is what these people are ... internet assholes.
