Me also avast! 100% Virus Bulletin award winner, and nice voice audio alerts (Warning! A virus has been detected!, Virus database has been updated, etc.)

    Skinnable like winamp.

So far, this is the BEST antivirus for Windows x64, bar none.

Next I suggest Avira anti-vir. Supposed to be better than avast but I like avast's interface more.

Just tried Avast to replace my AOL/AVS. Installed OK. Skin and sounds are good.

Protection was horrible though and hence my reason for being awake still at 3am. Within 10minutes of usage, it detected a trojan on a downloaded file--good but most unfortunately it did not prevent it from spreading. The best it could come up with were several warning messages to delete the file. It came up with more warnings as the file-morphing started. Tried deleting to no avail. It even removed my long installed WinRAR.exe which was not the virus file at all.

Switched back to Kaspersky/AOL active virus shield to fix. Avast just didn't work out for me. I think I've had enough software testing for the day. whew

To be fair to avast!, it did find a trojan AOL/AVS didn't. Unless it was a newly downloaded file.

Same thing happened when I installed avast! in my nephews' PC. It detected a virus that AVG couldn't, but unfortunately, it was too late for avast! to remove it. Best to install avast! on an uninfected PC, then it gives you decent protection.

    i agree with dubioz..
Avast is best installed on a clean virus free PC...
If installed on an infected pc, possibilities are the virus are loaded already on the memory not just on the files..
when this happen, pwede ka mag schedule ug boot scan..kana mag scan ang avast before loading the critical files of the os..
i tried this boot scan and its very effective..

Thought I'd give AOL a try, but, it seems that it is spyware itself. This is a must read for anyone who installs it:

hehehe. it was a clean PC. but i downloaded something new after avast was installed and the AVS was uninstalled. i was keeping my hopes up for avast after having read good reviews above. unfortunately and IMHO, avast lacked the necessary protection. i only recently switched to free AVs since i got tired of having to keep up with crac#$.

on the non-free arena, i highly recommend bitdefender and kaspersky internet security after having quite literally installed and tried each of these products: nav, mcafee, nod, trend micro, ZA, panda, pc cillin and fsecure (mostly tried the internet sec packages rather than plain AVs)

to be fair, avast could be good but it didn't work out for me last night, and im not willing to give it a second chance just yet. =)

yups. the EULA is controversial but AOL hasn't resorted to spying just yet and after this publicity, i don't think they would do so if they're in their right minds. you can opt not to install the toolbar too. haven't received any single email ad from them since registration.

bro, both avast and aol avs are pretty light on processing.. but your protection is as good only as your virus definition file (that includes your norton). all of AVs today update at a regular basis online. some update every few hours even, most do it daily.
