Claudine seeks help from women's group after airport scuffle with Tulfo

Actress Claudine Barretto has sought the help of the Gabriela women’s group after a scuffle with columnist Ramon Tulfo at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday.

Gabriela Women’s party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan confirmed that Barretto already contacted their group but did not reveal information about their conversation with the actress.

“I regret we cannot give our stand yet because we still have to get the side of the parties, especially since Claudine has called up Gabriela,” Ilagan said in a text message to GMA News Online.

Ilagan said Gabriela is still trying to arrange further talks with Barretto as of posting time.

Last Sunday, Barretto’s husband, Raymart Santiago, engaged in a brawl with Tulfo after the columnist allegedly kicked the actress when she demanded the surrender of a cellphone supposedly used to take her pictures while berating an airline employee.

In a story aired by GMA News on Sunday, Tulfo admitted to kicking Barretto. "Tinadyakan ko. Natadyakan ko siya. Eh sinuntok ako eh," Tulfo told reporter Aubrey Carampel at the airport police headquarters on Sunday.

However, in a subsequent interview, Tulfo denied kicking Barretto, saying he believes women should not be hurt.

"Malayo 'yan sa mga Tulfo, lalo na sa akin na pinalaki kami na hindi dapat manakit ng babae. Ang babae kasi ay minamahal at hindi sinasaktan," Tulfo said on 24 Oras on Monday night.

However, a witness identified only as "Anna," an alleged witness to the incident, said Tulfo started the scuffle with Santiago at NAIA.

Anna said she could not keep quiet after learning Tulfo repeatedly claimed in various media interviews that he was the victim.

Anna said she saw Barretto asking Tulfo for the cell phone he used to take footage of her but Tulfo refused, saying he did not film her.

"At that point he pushed Claudine at tinadyakan. To me it looked like martial arts. Kinarate," Anna said. Tulfo is known as a martial arts practitioner.

"It did not look like he was protecting himself," she added.

Tulfo has already filed a complaint against Santiago, Barretto and their companions for grave coercion and physical injuries.

Santiago, for his part, had also already expressed his intention to file charges of grave threats against the columnist. - VVP, GMA News

Mon Tulfo needs to shut up immediately especially now that the case has been filed with the prosecutor's office. I've noticed many inconsistencies in his public interviews. He initially admitted kicking Claudine, but he now alleges he didn't. He claimed not to recognize her when he took her pictures, now he is saying that as a media practitioner he has every right to take pictures of a public figure. How did he know that she was a public figure if he failed to recognize her at the time he took pictures?
