Join any Aikido dojo. Aikikai or Ki society. What matters is that you put your self to your training. Understanding what aikido is happens not from reading or hearing from someone. It will come from constant regular practice. It doesn't matter how long. What matters is that you never stop.
BTW Form competition in Ki Aikido is Taigi Arts comp. Both Nage and Uke are team mates in competition with other pairs. It is like a kata comp.
Tomiki Aikido competition is between the Nage and the Uke where both can score points. this is the Aikido of Tomiki Sensei who was both a student of M. Ueshiba O'Sensei the Aikido founder and Jigoro Kano the Judo founder.
Ki Aikido is an offshoot of the original aikido founded by Koichi Tohei. Ki Aikido is the result of the tensions between Tohei and Kisshomaru Ueshiba, son of O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba who was the founder of aikido.
Ki Aikido emphasizes on the use of ki principles and ki exercises. Tohei's style of aikido was correctly called "Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido" which means "aikido with mind and body unified".
Humbo Aikido on the other hand is the aikido world headquarters in Tokyo.
