This was my first thought before i decided to buy the d800 but after they showed me the big difference to the noise plus the video capabilities ( which i think is awesome, i just had a baby and would love to keep track on his development so having a dslr with a video is a big bonus!). Definatelt the d800 lived up to my expectations. I had the choice of going back to canon and get the 5d mark iii but after reading the reviews about how faulty the camera is and canon needs to improve, with all the hobbyists critics i decided to back off couldnt afford to take the risk

First of all congrats on your new baby . I had a play with the D800 just recently that's why I shared my thoughts with it. Yes the noise level is pretty good but for me its not noticeable with a 8x11 print which I do sometimes. Anyway I might wait another year until the prices goes down or I get the 24mm 1.8G instead.

I checked the price today and its $3399 AUD

It'll be a good choice sir. I was lucky they had one in stock that i didnt have to pre-order. Dont get me wrong, the d700 with a 24-70mm lens was awesome, i loved it and yes u cant really tell the difference between the two except the video and some buttons have changed and the massive mps. I bought mine at the camerahouse.

your lucky if you can get them at your local shop for that price, i bought mine at camerahouse.com.au, $3799 + 2 years nikon warranty so it was really close to 4 grand. sigh
