The Constitution doesn't say anything about going to the extent of sending people to prison just to save a marriage. This is purely ego tripping and fanaticism on the part of our politicians. This law intrudes on the freedom of individuals and the penalty is grossly out of proportion with the crime. If this law is enacted, the Philippines will have the honor of joining the elite group of backward, fanatical countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia and the like. What kind of democracy enacts laws like this anyway? If we do this we have no right to call other countries oppressive societies.

In any case I'm not at all surprised that a law like this would be enacted in this country. We've already been going backwards, why not step on the pedal and go full speed backwards in time towards the middle ages?

On the contrary there are already existing laws, as I said these are well corrective measures to level the playing field since it is alot easier to prove ADULTERY than CONCUBINAGE.

I wonder why the guys are so against this bill. You did not do anything to repeal these laws, so why be so set against this one. Furthermore, even with an absolute divorce bill it does not mean this kind of law is irrelevant. They must still wait till their marriage is declared void to be not culpable. Another point, yung mga kerida they are given only destierro as penalty, I hope in the new bill equal lang yung penalty sa husband. hehehe.

Art. 333. Who are guilty of adultery. — Adultery is committed by any married woman who shall have sexual intercourse with a man not her husband and by the man who has carnal knowledge of her knowing her to be married, even if the marriage be subsequently declared void.
Adultery shall be punished by prision correccional in its medium and maximum periods.If the person guilty of adultery committed this offense while being abandoned without justification by the offended spouse, the penalty next lower in degree than that provided in the next preceding paragraph shall be imposed.Art. 334. Concubinage. — Any husband who shall keep a mistress in the conjugal dwelling, or shall have sexual intercourse, under scandalous circumstances, with a woman who is not his wife, or shall cohabit with her in any other place, shall be punished by prision correccional in its minimum and medium periods.The concubine shall suffer the penalty of destierro.
