In the first place, dili man gyud dapat maghilabot ang Estados Unidos aning isyu. Kitang mga Pilipino ang dapat na modepensa sa atong kaugalingong teritoryo. And as far as we're concerned, this issue is between China and the Philippines.

Except your neighbor (China) isn't the helpful, fair neighbor ... it carries a big stick that it is willing to use. If you think that the Philippines can defend itself against a theoretical military conflict with China ... you are delusional. The fact of the matter is, even without the American base in the Philippines, the only reason China doesn't do anything militarily against the Philippines, Taiwan or other territories it thinks it owns is because all these territories have the military backing of the US ... and the US military does not need a base in country to defend it's allies.

Why not build our own Philippine Air Base instead? Address that to Abnoy.

maoba bai...and so if 100 armed men were comming for your home, mu sukol ka? or mu dagan ka ma ngita pulis

mao na atong situation bai, we have <5 naval ships. if the chinese come we have NO/ZERO/ZILCH chance. if we had at least 1 submarine, we would have a fighting chance...Other than that we need external help.

unfortunately, the US has been accused of trying to 'police the world'. if they try to help in a world crisis, then other countries will say 'ngano mag apil2x man gud ning mga kano oi?' BUT if they don't help then the world will say 'if ni lihok ang US they could have prevented the rwanda genocide' THEY ARE DAMMED IF THEY DO AND DAMMED IF THEY DON'T.

I don't know what you mean by "prepare ourselves for what is going to happen"--if you mean pick up a rifle and head sa dagat mag atang sa mga incik then im right behind you. BUT if your saying lets just wait, and hand out KY jelly to the chinese while the arse F@*& me and my fellow pinoys b/c we were too proud to ask for help then i'm sorry to say dude you are NOT VERY SMART.

I know that. Our History teacher presented it in the past na out of all the countries with claims sa Spratlys Islands, ang Philippines ang weakest in terms of national defense. It's just that I don't really like the idea of us having to constantly ask the US for help in issues like this. As much as possible, we should really seek to solve this issue by ourselves. That's where diplomatic talks take place, like what the gov't is doing now.

If it's really inevitable, then we'll have to accept foreign aid, though grudgingly. However, I'm worried about what the consequence will be if we accept that aid, because I don't believe that the US is willing to give out its military resources for free. Surely, we'll have to give something in return, but what will it be?

I think that's why we have the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

You do have a point sa first paragraph. If we are outnumbered, we have to consider asking for help. But as much as possible, we have to start solving this by ourselves. And again, this is where diplomacy comes in.

And I can't help but believe that the US is trying to police the world. Like in Iraq, they decided to invade the country supposedly to rid of Saddam Hussein because of his possession of WMDs. But eventually, wala sila nakit-an na WMDs, from what I've heard. So, what happened there? And in the first place, didn't this take place after 9/11? Why did they focus on Iraq when what they should have focused on was finding Bin Laden?

Besides, I believe that the ones who get angry because of US intervention are usually the ones whose countries are having their affairs intervened by the US.

Maybe it's because we're Filipinos. We can't connect with the US soldiers or see their point of view, and we just see them as our "saviors". But let's put it this way. If North Korea invaded South Korea now and South Korea eventually lacks resources to win the battle, would you be willing to let South Korea recruit our own Filipino soldiers to fight THEIR war? Are we willing to let OUR soldiers die for ANOTHER COUNTRY's war?

That's what has happened in the US time and time again. Their leaders have no problem in acting as a world police to "solve" the problems around us. But beneath it all, these leaders are risking the lives of THEIR soldiers and separating them from THEIR families for many years in order to fight the wars from OTHER COUNTRIES. They are forced to fight for wars that doesn't have anything to do with national defense.

Thank goodness our Constitution only allows defensive wars, otherwise we would have that same fate with the US. But as you can see, that is why I'm not too comfortable with the idea of the US intervening in this conflict. And besides, the US is in a financial crisis, so how the heck could they support us in times of war? Wouldn't they have to borrow from China, or another foreign country?

When I said that we have to prepare ourselves, I meant to say that we have prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally for what could happen, because it involves our territory. The time may come when Congress declares war (and I repeat: CONGRESS declares war). We'll have to prepare for that moment that all of us, as citizens, would go to the battlefields. And while we're at it, we should probably begin to research on the root of this conflict. It's not just about China "bullying" the Philippines; what was the basis for China to claim the Panatag Shoal? What was the basis of the Philippines for claiming ownership of the shoal? Are the claims of China and/or Philippines justified?

And what's KY Jelly? Dili ko sure na makasabot ang mga Pilipino anang reference nimo?

And lastly, did you really have to call me as someone who's not very smart? We have our disagreements, but let's avoid attacking each other's character.
