    Default Do you believe in God?

    kinda bored so mu-reply ko.

    tolstoi:simple logic. i'll try to illustrate it again.

    god = omni-being (ex. omni-benevolent, omni-present, omniscient)
    god = pure good
    evil = absence of good *(as your little story insists)

    therefore

    evil = absence of god.

    which of course turn everything topsy turvy. if he is not present when evil is happening, then he is not omni-present. and how can good know evil? so he does not know everything. the whole idea of a 'god' then collapses. this my friend is the 'problem of evil' best dissected in this thread. i think u still can remember that one, eh? i have said my share about unconditional love facilitating evil through the gift of freewill. god, being omniscient of course, should have seen that but allowed it anyway. end result? suffering. ah yeah, he supposedly takes a hands-off policy by pointing the accusing finger at MAN. convenient..

    exactly. that is science. religious dogma and metaphysics cannot provide physical evidence. ever wonder why the word 'faith' somehow cropped up? well, mind you, physical evidence supports evolution. you have animal morphology, genetics, embryology, bio-geography, paleontology, biochemistry and more.

In the same sense, relativity as described by Albert Einstein is "just" a theory. The notion that Earth orbits around the sun rather than vice versa, offered by Copernicus in 1543, is a theory. Continental drift is a theory. The existence, structure, and dynamics of atoms? Atomic theory. Even electricity is a theoretical construct, involving electrons, which are tiny units of charged mass that no one has ever seen. Each of these theories is an explanation that has been confirmed to such a degree, by observation and experiment, that knowledgeable experts accept it as fact. That's what scientists mean when they talk about a theory: not a dreamy and unreliable speculation, but an explanatory statement that fits the evidence. They embrace such an explanation confidently but provisionally—taking it as their best available view of reality, at least until some severely conflicting data or some better explanation might come along.

    The rest of us generally agree. We plug our televisions into little wall sockets, measure a year by the length of Earth's orbit, and in many other ways live our lives based on the trusted reality of those theories.[/size]

    there was once a thread about evolution. i wonder where it went.

    Evil = absence of god.
    yups..i certainly agree with your simple logic..man becomes evil when he turns away from GOD..HITLER would not had been an evil person if only we was a devoted CHRISTIAN...and if your logic is right i can conclude that you are an evil person also since GOD is not present in you..you dont believe on HIM..ryt on bai GAREB

    yah ryt this areas of science still could not fathom out every mysteries of the world..for a start, they draws up the theories of magnetism purely in calculations..but the question is, does this scientist really sees magnetism (the force that pull/repel two objects) on there bare eyes??..how can they concur on their theories as facts when it isn't OBSERVABLE??...they just know that it works, but can they see how it works?

    let's just put it this way. Scientist formulated the Big Bang Theory which states that the world was not created by God rather it came from a big primodial atom that exploded... the question now is, WHO CREATED THE ATOM?

    believing in God....means believing that there is someone out there that is highest..

    that every man might have his/her own belief but bottom line is we all acknowledged that there is one person that is the author of all that is happening to us....
