this has to happen............
DEBRIS the size of refrigerators might fall on Camarines Norte and Catanduanes from a long-range ballistic missile that North Korea is expected to launch next week, triggering a ban on sea travel and flights over the affected area, a disaster official said Tuesday.
“We do not have the capability to shoot down missile,’’ said Benito Ramos, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
The only thing we can do is get out of the line of flight to ensure there will be no casualties.”
Ramos said a no-fly zone will be implemented within the missile’s flight line while boats and other vessels will also be barred from sailing in the affected areas between April 12 and 16, when North Korea is expected to launch its rocket.
The no-fly zone, which might affect several commercial flights, would cover the waters 190 nautical miles of Sta. Ana town in Cagayan to 150 nautical miles of Polilio Island in Quezon, Ramos said.
“The debris will be the size of refrigerators. If the missile overshoots, we are expecting possible landfall in Camarines Norte and Catanduanes,” Ramos said.
Our advice is for residents to wait indoors and wait for the proper advisory if there is need for evacuation.”
Ramos said the latest intelligence reports suggested that the missile, which is expected to be launched between April 12 and 16, would not be carrying any radioactive material.
He said authorities in several areas in Northern Luzon and the Bicol region had been alerted on the possible danger posed by the rocket.
He said the Armed Forces, the Coast Guard and aviation officials had been instructed to help local government units prepare residents in the areas that might be affected.
Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said President Benigno Aquino III would bring up the missile launch at the Asean summit in Cambodia.
“The President will do everything to convince the Asean neighbors to stop this long-range ballistic test in order not to violate United Nations resolutions to maintain stability in the region..
