Thread: PHP Frameworks

    Default PHP Frameworks

Anyone using this paradigm for developing PHP applications?

So far I'm open to this new approach as it is far more oragnized than current techniques.

So far I've just started learning Symfony http://www.symfony-project.com/ and Zend http://framework.zend.com. I've also got into reading (no practice) of CakePHP and Prado.

    Anyone else practicing something else?

I'm a baker (CakePHP) . I've used it with 3 projects so far, it really takes away the repetitive bits of the code and makes programming fun. Since symfony went to 1.0 beta I've been wanting to try it but I haven't found time to play withit yet.

Codeigniter is also pretty good (www.codeigniter.com) simple, light framework.

I'd like to know who else uses these as well.

Ei vern, really? Been awhile since you coded.

Symfony and CakePHP seem to have the most active communities right now, I've personally tried Symfony, Cake, PHPOnTrax and CodeIgniter. But so far I've stuck with Cake. I think Symfony has a very robust set of features but I like Cake's low barrier of entry, and easy deployment.

Also while not strictly a framework I think you should look into Drupal 5, which they just released a week ago. It's the most flexible CMS I've ever used (it's really more of a framework with a CMS, User management and accessrights management rolled into it). The inclusion of a web installer, new theme and the administration overhaul really helps improve its usability. And having Jquery (kickass JS library) on core is fricking great since I use Jquery in almost all of my sites / projects.

And slightly OT, I really want to learn Django (http://www.djangoproject.com/), a Python framework, as their administration interface is awesome but I don't see a lot of servers which support Python, and I don't have time to muck around with it atm.
