I don't really understand the fascination with fraternities. If you want a group to help you out with studies join or form a study group! If want a group just to fun, you have your barkadas for that! For political connections? Join a political party, a partylist, or even a activist group! For business connections? Join business conventions, use the internet (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc), or business-oriented groups! For community service, there's the Rotary club, Red Cross, the United Nations!

What I dont get from your statement is that you are so firm in your convictions yet how you started your exact thoughts was something out of CONFUSION because you did not UNDERSTAND the FASCINATION . Isnt that very contradicting at all ?

It is just plain wrong to extract something out of these claims and affirms its position in the society in the wrong context . Yes you have options to belong into mutual groups , barkadas , political parties , business oriented groups , humanitarian / service organizations etc but it doesnt mean that FRATERNITIES are reserved only to beating the crapout of people and the penchant for violence . You are talking about FRATMEN here , not the FRATERNITY .

Just because you are a BARKADA , POLITICIAN , a LEADER of LIONS / ROTARY / JAYCEES etc does not also constitute na di ka pwede or excempted na ka of becoming a MENACE to SOCIETY or worst , an ENEMY of the STATE .

I was a fratman for the last 22 years , you would shit your pants out if I tell you that I joined not because I need friends , I want to be well connected , I want to be successful in business and etc . I joined because I can see it was fun and indeed it was . And still up today , just like what and how fun it was 22 years ago . You know why ? Because the very same BARKADAS was into it , eventually became lead and key role influential people that I am now WELL CONNECTED with , some became FAM , LIONS , ROTARY , JAYCEES etc and they dont need drag people because their individual and objectives can easily be met in any given time and day maski ikaw " AKRHO " lamang not as a FRATERNITY but as a FRATMAN .

That has also been my "fascination" until I grew older to understand that there is an embedded desire or need for man to belong to.. The paths or choices can be different for people (for me it is my faith and the people that I love). And because of this need people may even go through the extent of sacrificing their life or future (which is also true in relationships that we know is dangerous).
