Default Re: Japan to Join Balikatan 2012

the necessity and dependency on US troops to defend our sovereignty is at the same time real and artificial.

"real", because the necessity is all too apparent as we do not have a strong standing army to counter any threat from other countries, especially against china.

"artificial", because this dependency is historic in nature and should not be seen only through a military aspect, but through a holistic approach (military, economic, cultural) as suggested by the dependency theory. the majority of the world's nations suffering from underdevelopment, and even in a smaller scale such as the underdeveloped rural areas inside most countries, are a testament to this.

by seeing that the necessity is "real" and stopping there, we maintain and endorse a status quo worldview that limits what we can do to change our status and the status of the rest of underdeveloped countries, along the lines that is "permitted" by the hegemonic nation that oversees us.

japan right now doesnt have any army because of the treaty nila pagka pilde. but because of genius lawyers they found a loophole sah treaty. they cannot create an army(you define it) but it doesnt say on it nga d sila pwede mka himo ug defense force(army/navy or something would be aggressive on stance). so basically the defense force of japan is a highly trained police force nila.

China will join Balikatan too soon. Balikatan is like an exercise. They will teach us Martial arts techniques while US will teach
how to hold & handle proper modern weapons. Japan will teach us how to survive Tsunami & earthquick. And us Filipinos
will teach them how to eat through hands to survive wars. And Korea & Philippines, we'll just teach them English.
