Default Mo root ug Xperia Arc S

I need someone to configure my Sony Xperia phones (Arc S and Mini Pro)

Hello my fellow istoryans. I am a newbie about Android phones and I need your help.

    Problem:

    - Too many apps running in the background by default as soon as I turn on my phone. Using my knowledge in Windows PC, I believe this will slow my phone's boot up time and will slow my phone's overall performance as these apps will eat up most of my RAM leaving little to use for other applications.

    - Too many apps installed on my phone's internal memory. Most of these apps are pre-installed on stock default in my phone's system but I consider them as JUNKS (zynga games, word game, etc. SAD cause they are default by the system). These apps consume a large part of my phone's internal memory leaving little space for new applications to be installed.

    What I want to happen:

    - I want those unnecessary apps NOT to run in the background when I turn on my phone. Only those that are really needed by the system in order to boot and to run all services properly.

    - I want to transfer these apps installed in my phone's internal memory to its micro SD card excluding those system apps needed for my phone to function properly even without a micro SD.

    Note:

I have learned that I can only do this if my phone is rooted and boot unlocked. I googled some stuffs regarding this and found out that updating my phone's software will cause my phone to "brick" as what they call it and will render my phone unusable if my phone is boot unlocked.

My phone is running on gingerbread. Will I still be able to upgrade it to Ice Cream Sandwich in the future if I will root it and unlock its boot? If not, is there a way around it for me to upgrade?

I'm looking for those with wide experience and can answer a lot of my questions regarding this subject. I will gladly pay for your time and professional service. Please feel free post or send me a private message with your SOLUTION in mind and your talent fee.

    Thanks!

I think rooting will void your warranty You can download apps like task killer or Android Assistant in the Android market w/o necessarily rooting down your phone (if your concern only is the background apps running on your phone). But then again, there are System apps that you can't normally stop unless you root your phone and install Titanium backup to freeze those system files. Rooting as you know gives you the full access to your phone's internal and system files. Now, the question you have if you are still able to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich in the future? yes you can still. But not OTA (Over the Air anymore), You can download the Official ICS (when Sony will be releasing it) and using ODIN to flash the official ROM to your phone. I am not in anyway a professional on this, but mostly I learn by and by on rooting and flashing by just constantly reading and reading on this page -->> Android Forums & Windows Phone Discussion @ xda-developers Try to just read all under the Xperia Arc S forum... Even if your a noob, you will later on find that it's really easier to flash a custom rom (than you previously think it might be hard). Reading is your key to that link.

you can also try this root solution, its the easiest one available right now. Unlock Root of Android its just a simple process. so far I have rooted a samsung galaxy s, y and an lg p500 using this software. suwayi lang bay.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions...

I have tried googling about this stuff earlier in several android forums including the ones you have posted and I can imagine the steps and trace the logic. I really haven't seen an actual rooting so I am very reluctant to try it for I am very uncertain what will happen to my phone. I believe those task killers are useless because these apps restart itself after force-closing them. I already installed a startup manager which seems to be doing fine. It boots up my phone quickly because it stops unnecessary apps from running during boot. However, after booting, these apps run again without even calling them to run.

I also installed a PRO version of App2SD which transfers my apps from phone to SD card and it did. However, it can't transfer all files. It's fine because most of them are system files but what annoyed me are those some games and aftermarket apps that can't be moved at all.

The main reason why I want these things changed or configured is because my battery won't last long. Only for a day and a half and then it needs charging again. I installed Juice Defender and seems to be doing great. But then again, I hate the thought that I don't have full control of these apps unlike when I'm tweaking my gaming rig in Windows PC to its fullest potential.

I'd just like to ask, do you like your current ROM if you could just get rid of the nasty apps that's been bothering you? 'Coz if you do then just root your phone after you unlock the bootloader first from sony ericsson's site after root it then install apps like "Root all to SD". But what I can suggest is to get rid of the old or stock rom go cyanogenmod or something. You will be more than happy to know why...

    @TS

so again TS, your primary concern is not about the running apps but the low battery life on your Arc S right?

hmm.. so which brings to the point again to really ROOT YOUR PHONE....

Rooting gives greater access to removing unwanted and unecessary apps that kills your battery and installing a Custom Rom would give a much considerable difference in your battery and performance of your phone.

Now, I would advice you read and just read about it. There is infact a new process already that isnt really cumbersome to root. It's a one stop root in just a matter of seconds...

The link I gave you at XDA DEV, pretty much explains everything...
