11.10 is design for newer version of machine. If you are using P4, Dual Core and etc, and having 1gb memory then it would run slowly.

It has also been recommended by some Linux community to double your swap file or times 2 of your memory, like you have 1gb memory then your swap is 2gb.

Unless your machine is in i3 to i7 for sure it would be running perfectly.

...how about the /boot partition bro? what would be the recommended size to help tweaking the performance if in case the memory of my pc contains 1GB only?

@wire: I used the root (/) for my Linux installation and a swap, other than that is for the following.

    Partition Purpose

/usr This is where most executable binaries, the kernel source tree and much documentation go.
/var This is where spool directories such as those for mail and printing go. In addition,
it contains the error log directory.
/tmp This is where most temporary data files stored by apps.
/boot This is where your kernel images and boot loader configuration go.
/home This is where users home directories go.

100mb for /boot partition should okay pre, you need the space if you keep on updating the distro.. basically every time you run apt-get dist-upgrade it will dump the latest kernel upstream available sa imong boot partition (kung naa man available sa server) so unless you meticulously delete those unnecessary kernel files or you're running a rolling distro then ~50mb should be more than enough..

to give you an idea, what's the current size of your /boot you can run "du -hs /boot" via terminal.
here's mine for reference if you need... happy nixing

    Mint12:
    skip@DELL-N7010 /boot $ du -hs
    84M

    Arch:
    skip@DELL-N7010 /boot $ du -hs
    17M

btw for the swap partition always try to double the size of you're RAM, if you have more 4GB RAM you can opt for swapless setup but I still recommend to keep a swap partition though maski minimal size lng.

para maklaro kung naa ka 320Gig space..

    /swap - x2 sa imong ram
    /boot - 100mb or a bit more
    /root - 10+Gig pwede ra
/home - mas dako mas maayo para sa mga files nimo.

...I think, trainings nowadays are not really necessary, because ther are plenty of resources from the the internet. Administering Linux, you can find all of that from the internet. Practical wise, you need a lab and create something what you want, then challenges will follow, don't skip or surrender just follow what you want to aim. Always set an objective and achieve it.

Administering, I think, there are five edges of systems administrator/integrator`s job that you have to follow basically, Install, Configure, Backup and Recovery, Troubleshooting, and Documentation. that's it! just learn to reach these basic tools to administer not only to Linux but in all technologies. If you have achieved all of this then it's good to go, whatever, wherever, whenever you are?

@wire: Now you know... 100mb is too much while Linux kernel can have 2.5mb to 5mb. In my experience in Linux I don't set /boot partition usually. As I checked my Debian based Linux, it's just 3mb in my /boot partition with 2gb memory, 1.73 Dual Core and 120gb HDD.

Then why do you need to asked questions that you know the answer?
