Governor General Junquera was responsible for the construction of Teatro Junquera before Don Jose Avila purchased it. He built the first house of entertainment in Cebu which was sorely needed in his time; he opened the street leading to this threatre which he constructed; he was good and kind to the natives and protected them from the corrupt and land-grabbing friars. Despite the little record about his life, the Cebuanos gratefully named the street after him.
