@jay52969 I can honestly say it was boring. The LAN connection was not established because of the router that failed during that day. Thank you for your honesty though. Me and jason4ver tried our best to organize the event despite our busy schedules. Thank you for the participants that have attended and especially to Fineupgrades who have sponsored for the needs of the event.
dapat unta bai before the event hapsay na tanan nyu mga gamit....hope nxt tym dli na ingon ato ka BORING...lami na au unta i.uli but maikog lng ko sa mga organizers didto...so naghulat nlng ko mahuman ang event..

I'll be the first one to make an honest, constructive, full blown review of the event even if the issues were painted around the faces of the organizers, just in case we miss something.
A lot of the things from the first and the second one improved. Notably the ingress of the visitors and the egress. The previous ones, it felt the guards were harassing us. Next would be the electricity, it was well done but I cannot judge from there due to the limited number of participants. Electricity lines and LAN cables weren't sitting anymore in haywire, they were well laid with packaging tape. The existence of spare cables and switches from the organizers did help.
Side note: don't use packaging tape, it is subject to rape by shoes due to its thin property. Instead, masking tape or if you have the budget, duct tape.
The tables were definitely an improvement. Some faces of the tables were very familiar but they were sturdy. Security was also well maintained with the help of friendly volunteers. They were enjoying the event too and that was really nice for me to know. The crowd, I do hope they did have a good time.
Fine Upgrades, as the main sponsor of the event, was given a good amount of exposure there compared to the previous events.
The certificate was a nice returning touch from the first Xrigs.
Now on the persisting issues and we'll start chronologically.
*The meeting - even if there were only three of us in Cheaverz, it would have really helped if the people that called the meeting would have been there. A lot of the issues I will mention here may have been avoided. I will give Jay the right to swear and curse of the event and I will defend him for that. No amount of wall-of-text, pre-event, last minute post will be of any help to the attendees. Did you know that one of our members didn't even know about the last minute post that he didn't know what time to go to the school? Perhaps if the info was disseminated earlier, it would have been better.
Also try to keep in touch with the attendees. It may be your event but it doesn't mean you can't ask help or advice from us. In this post, you have the event manager of CEBU. It may sound like I am whoring for attention, but I wish you guys should have contacted me and asked for advice or help. This has been the situation all back in the second X rigs, with my major complaint which is the spaghetti LAN cables and the oh-so inefficient table arrangement. The power line, don't ask me, ask the ones who got hardware damage since I got none.
*The unnecessary conflict with the USC-TC employee (or whoever that was, they say it was your Dean) - I'd like to point out that I was the first guy who was confronted by the aforementioned employee.
First, I was busy crazy that time trying to fix the LAN connectivity and I was juggling so many things at once. It happened that Andy and Luis was not in-front of their machines but instead me. I was at Luis' machine, looking at the monitor and stuff until somebody tapped me in the back. The conversation went like this:
Me: Oh hey, how may I help you?
Employee: What is this event that you have here?
Me: Well its X Rigs, haven't you heard?
Employee: Well what are you here?
Me: I'm an attendee.
Employee: What are you again?
Me: I'm sorry, but if you have any questions, don't ask me. I'm not the organizer here and I'm busy.
Employee: Are you saying you're a nobody here? (in an insinuating tone). Who are you to make loud noises here?
Then Luis gladly rescued me from the conversation and I ignored everything, picking up what I left of what I worked on.
I don't care whatever the outcome of Luis and PJ's conversation was, but that small conversation of mine was straight offensive to me.
I don't know who you are, or do not care of what position are you in USC. But I am aware that you are:
-An employee of USC-TC
-Perhaps a teacher of a high rank
-Perhaps irritated or annoyed by the loud noises from our machines.
But that shouldn't exempt you from:
-Being ignorant or unaware of the events around of your own workplace
-Being insinuative towards anybody in the school, whether student or not.
-Trying to insult me with "Are you saying you're a nobody here?" in an insinuative tone (see line above)
-Trying to fix a problem from the people with the least authority (e.g.: me, attendees). If you have a problem with the event, ask the organizer. We should respect hierarchy whether you're on top or not.
And in my opinion that you are:
-Arrogant
-I could have made you shut up if I weren't too busy and could have probably booted me off the school. Besides, who gets the crappiest reputation anyways?
But hey, it didn't stop there and I have one more story that I'll just copy-paste from somewhere since I'm too tired to retype and rephrase this. I was about to make another section for this but nevermind, here it is:
I think that explains it.Then the sh*tty parking staff. Tubag nako kay nawad-an kog trabaho. Gisingkahan kog pangutana nganong naabot man ko didto na wa koy company. Gitubag lang sad nakog tarong kay ok pa akong mood ato. Gipangayo-an ko ug ID then pagkahuman nilakaw lag way tugon or pasalamat, niduol siya ug kauban na guard then gitutokan ko from a far basin nangutanag sa diin ko. Wa gyuy batasan.
Ang ako lang, wa gyuy alam ang mga employee didto sa mga nangabot na visitors, let alone pamatasan towards visitors. Disgusting.
I find it discomforting whenever some guard and some employee talks to PJ somewhere far. I think something wrong is going on and everybody needs to pack up and go.
But point being, if only the meeting happened, we would have avoided such scenarios. I admit, I did not anticipate these but I know you guys have it in mind. I do know the issue with noise has been discussed here but it wasn't clearly emphasized at all.
*The network - oh we do know what's the problem with this. Perhaps the pool size is full in the router now thus me and some people unable to get an IP. Sure, we could have just changed or diagnosed it from the router admin panel but nobody knows the password to the router.
I just eventually gave up fixing it and stopped myself from getting too exhausted since my upper sinus was inflamed. The stress and the hot weather didn't help.
I did not expect that internet would exist this time in xrigs since there was none in the last 2 which is why I tethered my tab to the PC to have internet connection and Andy also had his smartbro. I anticipated that only if LAN did really work, I could share the internet connection to the rest of you people assuming I got the network configuration right for everyone to connect to my tethered connection. I WANTED EVERYBODY TO GET A SLICE OF MY INTERNET CONNECTION - That's how generous I am.
But then DHCP was broken.
This is why I don't want to use home routers for these kind of events, perhaps a dual LAN linux box, but you can ignore this part because I'm nitpicking like some angry hacking nerd.
However, even if LAN worked, this brings us into the next issue which is...
*None of us knows what LAN game to play - I am not the event organizer, nor approached by one. If we were to pick on our own, we would be playing it but we want the crowd to play it, not us. I feel bad for the guy here who keeps posting on what LAN game that we will let the crowd play but no one, not even me feels replying. Plus I am getting tired of distributing copies of the game through my portable drive or through LAN. Trust me, I feel the same in our own LAN Parties. We could have planned this if only the meeting happened. I wanted the crowd to have a feel of the machines too by battling their own friends/classmates there.
*The table arrangement - This really needs to be rethinked. All of the xrigs didn't get this right at all. First would be the spacing, there was so much space around but there was so little for everybody to move around especially in the walkway in the center isle. Xrigs 2011 was a complete waste of space, seriously. The middle part could have been used for something better. Xrigs 2012 was just congested. I don't think we're on a LAN Party here right? We're on a computer show-off event!
Second would be the distribution of attention. I do not want the people with the lesser rigs to get lesser attention because the big guns are sitting at the back and all of the people are there look at it. Sure, I could have just moved my huge-ass TV somewhere so there's a good balance of where the people are concentrated and looking at but I didn't have the space.
We should also consider here that 13 out of 20 participants here are not our members. We do not want to dominate the place, we already have established a name and we want these new faces to gain exposure. A little bit of ego boosting is also nice which brings us to...
*Lack of crowd-participant(attendee) interaction - You guys could have been a good wingman to me if only you guys considered this. Valentines is getting lonely for me for the last 5 years. I do not want to feel/project high and mighty there that I feel like I have the biggest e-cock ever and none of the crowd should touch/talk to me. We want to show people that we are ordinary people and not extravagant, smug, rich people. We're normal people too, I'm 21 young and like to show people that I'm just like them.
I am getting sleepy writing this and I have to jog this 6AM, I think I missed something but let me finish this.
I do not expect that the recent xrigs will be of any good to any future related events there, especially with the fact that who would succeed managing and organizing the event from Datalogics. Then we also have employees involved now in the problem. But if there were to be another xrigs, please, if you're reading this in 2013 whoever you are organizer-guy, take this as my advice to make it better. Well actually you can start now, but good luck on trying to get another one running next year.
Again, thank you again for the experience. It could have been better for all of us. Xrigs will, and will always be under my radar.
