    simple.

the board had become a feasting ground for religious fanatics. and how does one moderate mudslinging from religious fanatics and beg reason from them?

    you can't.

yes it can be a feasting ground on the topic of religion... but how about the other aspect? because as far as i remember it was not only limited to religion.

If the problem is on the feasting ground that leads to mud sling then I think it is an offense committed as an individual and should be resolved as it is and not on the totality of the thread...

I think more than 75% of my post prior to my recent comeback were mostly from that thread. It will goes back in respecting other opinions. That is why we went into that thread to share, find something, reason out our thoughts, observe other way of thinking, and to be educated in which no school or organization could hinder one's personal biases and accepting or acknowledging different beliefs or horizon's on life.

Regarding on how to "limit" as a moderator you could reprimand or give infraction or banned the person's account which by any means already being warned about his bullying. If possible could you have a special scrutiny to view one's maturity it could be a test, personality exam before to be allowed or be a member in order to post on the said thread.

I think is it also the responsibility of the assigned moderator to assist, guide and moderate the heated discussion of the members? As a moderator it is a challenge and a responsibility to bring out his inner leadership to reconcile, accept and understand one another's personal biases that everyone would realized the wisdom.

Thank you and happy new year...

you still do not get it.

how do you reason with with rule violators that think they are on the side of Right, whatever it is that they do, because they are "spreading the Word of God" who is supposedly good?

furthermore, what is the point in arguing?

it is fool's wisdom to think that there is any gained from listening to self-aggrandizement that spouts out from the mouths of zealots. and this does not apply only religious creed, but the stripe of everyone's belief and color of every single person's politics.

we can build the sturdiest board to serve as a venue and accommodate for discussions from different point of views, facilitating growth by sharing information, perspectives and insights. but maintaining order inside the boards by the keepers can only go so far, as the topic of discussion that the board was build around was inherently divisive and perspectives affirm only themselves and no one else. the dynamics of the venue itself is threatened not just by intolerant members, but by inherently intolerant points of views themselves.

i wish you were able to see the kind of low-blows exchanged by the self-acclaimed righteous and moral that i have seen in the boards. it's like poison, it kills not just the richness of the conversation, but the entire point of being here and discussing about things. it's not just mud, but acid and vitriol. ultimately, it is revealed that each of these personalities are only here not to discuss and hear out what the other has to say, but to advance his/her/their own religious agenda, defeating the very purpose of a forum.

it is funny, sad, and ultimately pointless.

can we possible open a Psychism Thread then, which will mainly focus on Metaphysics, parapsychology and Psychic phenomena? This thread will not be a venue of "religion".

if it is just a thread, by all means, yes. however please do use the search feature as i have a hunch that an existing thread of that nature already exists.
