    Default AMD APU/GPU 2012-13 Roadmap

As we have seen, the first products of AMD's first 2012 range - Southern Islands or Radeon HD 7000 family - are already shipping, with the entire line-up to be filled in the coming months. Next in line for AMD are the 2012 APU line-up - Trinity, Brazos 2.0 and Hondo.
Trinity has been covered in much detail over the last few months, and is due to release in Q2 2012 - around the same time as Intel Ivy Bridge. AMD expects numerous design wins, the first of which has already been announced by Arctic. Trinity will be predominantly branded as 2nd gen A-Series, with A4, A6, A8 and A10 segmentations.Following the cancelation of Wichita and Krishna, Brazos 2.0 will have to hold ground in the low-power market covering C-series and A-series for 2012. Brazos 2.0 is reported to be a minor improvement over Brazos. The main improvements are in the chipset as well as the introduction of Turbo Core. Hondo is the successor to Z-01 (Desna) and will appear in tablets and other ultra low power devices. Like Brazos 2.0, Hondo's improvements are also mostly in the FCH - power optimizations will cut down consumption significantly over Z-01. Hondo is rumoured to be branded Z-03. Both Hondo and Brazos 2.0 are based on the same infrastructure and fabricated by TSMC's 40nm process.Moving to 2013, AMD's Graphics division will introduce Sea Islands, which brings major archictecture enhancements to GCN and introduce Heterogenous System Architecture (HSA) features. HSA was previously called Fusion System Architecture that will ultimately see future APUs fully integrate CPU and GPU. The transition to HSA will begin with 3rd gen APU, Kaveri. It will introduce Steamroller CPU cores, which improve IPC and power over Trinity's Piledriver cores. Kaveri will be the first APU featuring GCN and with HSA enhancements, which suggests it will be derived the Sea Islands generation rather than Southern Islands. Kaveri will also see a shrink to 28nm and will compete with Intel's 22nm Haswell.Rounding up an all-28nm 2013 (Intel will be at 22nm) will be Kabini and Temash, built round new Jaguar CPU cores, which will finally succeed Bobcat. Kabini will also introduce HSA features, and possibly GCN to the GPU. As with Hondo and Brazos, Temash will be the ultra low power variant of Kabini, succeeding Hondo / Z-03.Image Source: HardOCP
