I read the book. They made a huge change in the timeline!!! The book is suppose to be set AFTER World War Z as the UN worker goes around the world to interview survivors of the zombie pandemic. It's a collection of stories and individual accounts set as a narrative, almost documentary like. We never know the background of the UN worker, I don't even know if he mentions his name at all and he certainly didn't place himself during the war. Now, he is suppose to be the one saving the world? with a wife? Pfffffttt!!!
