The film, based on a true incident in German Nazi-occupied Poland, has been selected as the Polish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards. On January 18, 2012, the film was named as one of the nine shortlisted entries for the Oscars.[3] Six days later, the film was named as one of the five nominees.
The film was also the first full-length film shown at the 23rd Polish Film Festival in America in Chicago on the Opening Night Gala. The film is dedicated to Marek Edelman.
